We had a great Shrimp Boil & Fish Fry for 2014.  Scott did a great job as did everyone involved.  I want to thank each of you for making it a huge success.  We indeed have a great club.  This club fundraiser continues to grow and impress.  I look forward to Scott letting us know exactly what we did. I am also confident it will keep improving and growing.  Scott set a high mark for future SB chairs.

Today, Randy Webber will be with us.  Rod is getting great presenters and we all know that it is a coup to secure Congressman Webber to speak to our club.  We all need to show up and encourage the membership with your presence and personality.

Our exchange student should be in attendance this week.  Her name is Karin (CAR-in) Boman from Sweden.  From my time I have spent with her, I have found her to be very respectful and polite.  We need to appreciate Diane Glenn, Jim Pierce, and Keith Franks for their work and commitment in youth exchange.  It takes considerable time and training for them to keep us qualified to send and acquire students.

See ya there.

Editor’s Note:  The members of rotary are a very diverse group. We come from all over the world, and we come from right here in Brazoria County. We have different backgrounds, experience and skills and when we join them together, amazing things happen. As we are joining together to do good in the community, we thought it would be great to feature members of Rotary.  Allow us to introduce you to Cindy Inman. Cindy is one of the newest Rotarians to join the Brazosport Rotary Club. We reached out to Cindy to learn a little bit more about her career path, motivation, family and hobbies. Welcome Cindy to the Club!

What do you do and what was your career path that brought you here?
Almost every job I have had has involved me doing some sort of bookkeeping, accounting and office management. I was an Army Brat, my step-dad retired from the Army in 1979 and we moved to Texarkana, Arkansas, where I lived until moving here in January 1992. Branson Construction was my first job and I worked there until 2000. In 2000, I moved with my family to Texarkana. My youngest daughter graduated high school in May 2012 and around that time Walter called and said he needed someone to come in and straighten out his office. What started as a 6-week task, ended with me coming back to work full-time managing the office.

What do you love most about your job?
I love working with numbers. Accounting has always been a joy to me. Give me something to reconcile and I’m like a kid in a candy store. Seriously, I love all aspects of bookkeeping and it’s just second nature to me and never feels like it’s a job.
Second, I work with an amazing crew in the office as well as in the field. Nothing gives me more joy than the co-workers I have developed life-long friendships with.
Third, I love the interaction with the customers and getting to know new people. I feel every customer is a friend and treat them as I would any friend.

Why did you join rotary?
I’m going to be a permanent resident in Lake Jackson, so I wanted to find an organization I could donate my time and talents to. My oldest daughter was in the Army for 5 years, and I had many organizations I was involved in at that time, but now that she is out I only donate my crafts. Since I’ve moved here in 2012, I’ve been looking for my next passion, and I’m hoping that will be the Brazosport Rotary Club.

What motivates you?
My two daughters and grandson.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Hobbies?
I love spending time with my family and my hobby/obsession/addiction is crafting. I love to make cards, scrapbooks, altered items, pretty much any paper craft you can imagine. I have a room devoted to my crafts and any free time I have I tend to spend in my craft room.

Can you tell us a little bit about your family?
I have two beautiful and amazing daughters. My oldest daughter, Lauren, served in the Army for 5 years (1 of those years in Afghanistan) and is currently in her third year of college at Texas A&M – Texarkana campus. My youngest daughter, Casey, just gave me an amazing grandson, Stanton. She is currently a stay at home mom who comes to help out in the office when I’m overwhelmed with work. I think she is going to get bit by the “accounting bug” too. I can’t begin to express the pride and joy the three of them are. I have an amazing boyfriend, Mele, who has a beautiful daughter, Marina, who is going to be a junior in high school. I am in love with my life and see a beautiful future!

As we end this interview, what is something interesting the rotary club should know about you?
Something interesting, hmmmmmm, I’m very OCD and have a wonderful sense of humor about it.I’m a devoted mom, “gammy,” daughter, girlfriend and friend.I love meeting new people and building new friendships while supporting my community.

Brazosport Rotary Club recently welcomed new Rotarians to the club! Pictured are Cindy Inman, Obi Ononobi and Depak Patel.

Fellow Rotarians,

Let me begin by thanking each of you for all of your hard work. We are seeing wonderful results and growth. Everyone has stepped up to the plate and worked incredibly hard to make this our best Shrimp Boil ever.

We are entering the home stretch and there are a few things to bear in mind as we make our final push. As mentioned, this Tuesday is the final day for apron sponsorships and regular sponsorships of $2,500 and over (which go on the back of the t-shirts). In order to have everything in time for sponsor bag distribution that is the date that I will need to turn in everything to the printer.

On a similar subject, if you have sold an apron sponsorship or a $2,500 and up sponsorship that was not at that level before, I need a PDF of the company's logo by next Tuesday as well. If your sponsor has been on either one in years past then it will not be required (unless they have a new logo).

Another item that was mentioned today-if you have not gotten any raffle tickets to sell, please be sure to come see Keith Frank at next week's meeting. We all need to do our part to get them sold.

Lisa Pauls has been working very hard on our auction-let's please do all we can to help her by providing the best items possible. As well, please invite potential bidders to the event-the best items won't bring a good price without good bidders.

Finally, let's do our best to get the word out about our event, whether it is by word of mouth or social media. We have a lot of fun activities this year, and need the community to be informed so we can bring as many people as possible to the event.

Once again, thank you for everything you have all done, and continue to do.

Sonny Miles was selected to be the April Rotarian of the month for his hard work on the Career fair! Thank you Sonny for all you did to make the event a success!
