Good afternoon!
Because tomorrow is a "fifth Tuesday", we will not meet as a club. However, you are encouraged to call up some Rotarians and go out to lunch together.
We will not meet at noon next week, either, because we will be joining Angleton Rotary at The Springs Event Center as we welcome international guests attending the Rotary International Convention in Houston to our Host Hospitality event. Hopefully, you have already RSVP'd Lucy to let her know you are attending. The event will begin at 6:30 PM, but since we are co-hosting the event, plan to be there by 6:00 PM to help set up. The dress code is casual attire (western wear if you have it).
Speaking of "setting up", there are two service projects worth your time this week:
- SAFETYTOWN (from Lucy Pendon): Please be at TW Ogg Elementary (208 Lazy Lane, Clute) by 9:00 AM on Wednesday, June 1. Located at 208 Lazy Lane, in Clute. You will see our Safetytown Trailer parked in front of the school. Our mission is to unload all the supplies and model buildings from the trailer and take them inside the building. For those that can stay longer, we also need help in setting up the GYM for Safetytown. This involves taping the floor with "imaginary" streets and crossing and setting up the stop lights and miniature buildings. The more of us that can help, the better.
Lucy will be doing training for our youth Volunteers in one of the classroom, so if you see a youth volunteer teacher's helper around, send them to Lucy.
- RAMP CONSTRUCTION (from Mike Coburn):
Rotary in Action is in a bind. As you are aware Abby Bundick has been out recovering from Covid since January. Thankfully she has improved to the point she is hoping to come home soon. However, her husband Sam is in the process of building a deck and has need of a ramp. Many of you have already made significant individual contributions of money. Thank you!
However, now we need some of your time and muscle.
Setting pylons: This next Saturday (6/4/22) we need to set the piling for the Ramp. We currently have David Landsborough, Steve Elbert, Mark Herns, and I (Mike Coburn) committed to work. We need 3 or 4 more Rotarians. We expect it will take most of the day. Please write Mike Coburn at mtcoburn@hotmail.com if you would like to help. Details for start and end time will be determined soon, but we would like to leave Lake Jackson early. We do plan to carpool to help save gas.
Deck work: Tentatively the next Saturday (6/11/22). More volunteers will be needed to help with finishing the construction of the ramp. Details to come.
Rotary International Convention starts this coming weekend in Houston. Hopefully, you have already registered if you plan to attend.
Finally, MARK YOUR CALENDARS for 6:00 PM on June 27, 2022. We will install incoming president Jordan Strother, our officers and directors at River Place in Freeport.
Yours in Rotary,
Wes
