Last week we had a tag team tell us about BISD needs. As Rotarians we need to be involved as volunteers to help the schools wherever we can. The program Lisa started last year at Jane Long is a great opportunity for us to make an impact in the lives of children.
This week our state rep Dennis Bonnen will tell us about the border and what the state is doing to secure it. We are fortunate to have a representative like Dennis. He is the type of person you want on your side of an issue.
We all need to be signed up for at least one committee. The ones that have volunteered have been posted on Club Runner.
If you know someone that might be interested in joining Rotary, invite them to our meetings. Let’s keep the momentum going on membership. Brian is off to a great start.
After discussing this with Patty we decided to cancel the Coke Corner event at Minute Maid on September 18 due to JA having an event. I would recommend that you try and support JA on the 18th.
I wanted to see if there might be any interest in going to see the Skeeters on September 20. It would be a Sky Box and it is limited to 25 people at $50 per. Food and cokes are included.
The Skeeters are tied for first place and this will be the second to last game of the season. The field is top notch if you haven't made it out there. Game time is 6:05 so it would be a relative early night. I would be willing to take our bus as well (And it is Air Conditioned- Aldrich!).
Information and Application Form for District 5890 2015-2016 Ambassadorial Scholarship are now available at our District website www.rotary5890.org
If you know of any young students that would be a great candidate to apply for the $30,000 scholarship (post graduate) at any University abroad please let them know about it. The application form must be submitted to our Club by Oct. 1, 2014 for review. It has been awhile since our club sponsored an Ambassadorial Scholar. (2005) Very minimum cost for our Club. We just provided him with our Club banner to take with him when he visited Rotary Clubs abroad. For any further question, email or call me.
The District Rotary Foundation Seminar is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 20, 2014 at Houston Community College (5601 West Loop 610 South). Registration, continental breakfast and fellowship start at 7:45 and end at 8:30 am. 8:30 to 1:00 pm will be presentations.
Our Club will cover the registration fee of $10/person. Just make sure President Ken Vernor and/or Rotary Foundation Director Lucilla Henderson know that you intend to attend. We generally all car pool to the venue.
In addition to learning more about The Rotary Foundation, donations made for either the Annual Fund or for Polio Eradication at the seminar will receive double Paul Harris Credits. Yes, it will me matched 1:1 by the West U Club. I was also told that members who are unable to attend the seminar may send their donation thru members that are coming to the seminar. In my role as District Annual Giving Chair, I am the one doing the paperwork. Therefore, members that are interested in taking advantage
of this offer make your contribution payable to the Rotary Foundation and give it to me. This is a great way to expedite your reaching the next level of your Paul Harris Fellow. For any questions or further information feel free to email or call me or Lucilla Henderson.
