Nineteen outstanding scholarship recipients were selected this spring from numerous deserving candidates. Earlier this month at senior awards programs, President Rod Hall presented $36,000 in scholarships to area scholars who wish to continue their educations at a higher level.

Over coffee, doughnuts, kolaches, tacos, Diane’s goodies and other nutritious brain food, my congenial band of Rotarians reviewed and rated around 200 applicants.   What a joy it was getting to know these young people through their applications. The process required approximately nine hours of meeting time in facilities provided by Merrill Lynch, thanks to Lisa. The final decision was often a difficult one because of the quality of the student applicants.   I want to thank committee members, Mike Coburn, Diane Glenn, Diane Hill, David Landsborough, Vicki Melass, Shelley Nadel, Lisa Pauls, Ravi Singhania and Ginger Wooster,  who worked together to make the selections.  I hope that these great Rotarians and many others who are interested in this vital project will volunteer for this committee next year.  It is a fantastic way to get to know other members and do something important at the same time.

I also want to thank all of the dedicated Rotarians who produced the successful 2015 Shrimp Boil that made these scholarships possible.  Let's do it again in 2016!!!!!
