In clear language he discussed AI, its impact on society, why we need to understand how to harness that power and know how to ask questions to harness its many applications.
Dr. Vincent R. Solis
President of Brazosport College
Dr Solis is a lifelong educator with more than 30 years of experience in higher education. Prior to serving Brazosport College, he held the presidency at Western Nevada College, and has served in a multitude of senior and executive roles during his three decades long career, including providing leadership for Academic, Enrollment, and Student Success divisions and units. Dr. Solis' academic began at Chemeketa Community College, and he later attended Texas A&M-Kingsville, earning honors in his BA in Psychology and Sociology, an MS in Psychology, and a Doctorate in Bilingual Education.
Throughout his career Dr. Solis has been committed to education and serving the community. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Solis is an active community member, previously serving as President of the Community Boxing Club of Brownsville and Chair of the United Way State Employee Campaign. He also contributes to his community as a proud Rotary International member, twice named Rotarian of the Month, and received the 2016 Ignite Member of the Year award for outreach in service of Rotary. In his current role he is a proud member of the Board for the Dream Center and serves as a mentor in the BISD mentoring organization.
Dr Solis is a sought-after public speaker, addressing audiences at the Department of Education, South Texas Hispanic Male Leadership Summit, Rotary, community groups, K12 settings, and civic/governmental entities. His presentation topics include Artificial Intelligence, Understanding Poverty, Technology, and Leadership.
He is a fervent advocate for education, frequently sharing his personal narrative of transformation from a high school dropout and youngest child of migrant workers to a professional educator, illustrating the profound and transformative power of education.
