The ‘Extra Mile Award’ celebrates those who don't just meet expectations—but exceed them. Through scholarships, service projects, and decades of goodwill, the Brazosport Rotary Club continues to go the distance for public education.
Clute, TX – The Brazosport Rotary Club was awarded the 2025 ‘Extra Mile Award’ by the Brazosport Independent School District (BISD) Board of Trustees, in recognition of the Club’s long-standing commitment to supporting local students, educators, and schools across the district.
At the June 16, 2025, BISD Board Meeting, Rotarians Harold Nicoll and Lisa Verner accepted the award on behalf of the Club. The ‘Extra Mile Award’ is one of the highest honors BISD can bestow upon community partners and individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to public education and student success.
For decades, the Brazosport Rotary Club has provided:
- Annual college scholarships to graduating seniors from Brazosport ISD high schools,
- Educational supplies and classroom resources for teachers,
- Community events and celebrations for students with special needs,
- Support for district literacy initiatives like dictionaries to every third-grade student in the district, district wide track meet, etc.
This recognition places the Club among an elite group of awardees, which in past years has included county officials, school staff, nonprofit organizations, and citizen volunteers who go beyond the expected in service of BISD students.
“It’s an honor to be recognized, but our work here in Brazosport continues,” said Club President Harold Nicoll. “We believe that strong schools build strong communities, and we’re proud to walk alongside BISD in that mission.”
