Countdown to the Firecracker!
Volunteers Still Needed

The 38th edition of Sunrise Rotary's Firecracker Run/Walk is just weeks away. Your help is needed to make this event a rousing success. Please click here to volunteer.

Welcome Guests

We appreciate having guests join us early on Thursday morning's and appreciate their interest in what we do and who we are even at that early hour. This week we were joined by Eric Brown and his son Noah, Tom Rohlf, Deb Dutra, Anne McAnelly, Ayo Banjo.

Guest Speaker - Ayo Banjo

Ayo Banjo is clear as to his personal mission, "My goal in life is to build an environment and a space where folks can come together and work together towards issues and projects that are affecting our community as a whole and in ways that we can be a source for change." Sounds simple and then Ayo starts to speak and his energy and story is engaging and compelling.

Ayo wears a community organizer who work encompasses racial, social, housing, and climate justice; he sits on the Santa Cruz Mayor's Climate Action Task Force; he is the president of the California and Hawaii NAACP youth and college division; he is a marketing director at Climatize.

We won't even attempt to capture his full presentation - done all without slides - if you can, watch the meeting video to hear his describe all the initiatives he's involved with or leading and his thoughts on being intentional when it comes to engaging the community and being inclusive and how we shouldn't be in silos, that there are crossover and connection points between community efforts, you just have to be open to them and to reach out. Watch the video.

Pedal the Pacific

Once again, the team of young women, ages 19-23, are riding the pacific coast to raise awareness of sex trafficking and funds to support services for victims of sex trafficking. They launched last weekend from Seattle and will be here in Santa Cruz in July.

On July 11, you can cycle with the team into Santa Cruz. Everyone will meet at El Vaquero winery, 2901 Freedom Blvd. at 10:00AM and will return to the winery around 3:00PM.

On July 12, a dinner will be hosted at Megan and John Martinelli's home. There is limited capacity for this event. You will hear from local organizations including Rising International and Monarch Services about the reality of sex trafficking in Santa Cruz and you will hear stories of the ride from the team. Scan the code here for more information.

In Case You Missed It...

This awesome crew of Sunrise Rotarians came together on June 10th and put together 400 hygiene kits for clients of Housing Matters. The Club also provided funding for the kits.
