Rod Caborn Day
Tributes of gratitude and love filled our Club meeting on November 20th as
proclamations and resolutions in writing and words were presented by U.S.
congressional, California state, Santa Cruz County and City officials to honor our own
Rod Caborn and his life of service above self. Rod, truly a renaissance man who hails
from English shores, is the energy and spirit of Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary and has lived a life of love, charm, great cheer and unwavering service to so many on the CentralCoast. On Rod Caborn Day across Santa Cruz County, along with his loving family including his wife Kelly and daughter Cassidy, it was so cool to bathe in the warmth of Rod’s smile and recollect the many examples of his courageous and passionate service to all. Thanks, Rod!

Nov 13: Mariah Roberts, Treasure Cove Update
The primary beneficiary of our 2024 bike ride was the Treasure Cove playground at Jade Street Park. We got an update on the Park’s construction from Mariah Roberts, Executive Director of County Park Friends.
Nov 20: CA State Assembly Member Gail Pellerin
CA Assembly Member Gail Pellerin talked to us about recent legislation she has championed around Housing, Public health and community safety. She also presented the Club with a resolution from the California State
Assembly Legislature celebrating our 40th anniversary and commending the Club for its outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
If that isn’t cool enough, a representative from U.S. Congressman Jimmy Panetta’s
office was also on hand to present our Club a Congressional Certificate of Special
Recognition celebrating our 40 years, and recognizing the Club’s
outstanding and invaluable service to, and continued impact on, our community.

Rotary Foundation Annual Fund Campaign

In case you missed it, we are in the midst of our Rotary Foundation Annual Fund campaign. Pledge cards will be going out via US Post for those who didn’t receive theirs at a recent meeting. A generous group of members have agree to increase their annual donation by 25%, raising an addition $6,000+, if we hit 90% club member participation. However, President Dave and TRF Co-Chairs Jeremy and Rick firmly believe we can achieve 100% participation this year. Reminder, donations to TRF are tax deductible and is what fuels our club's local and International projects through Rotary Global and District grants. Teen Kitchen Project in Costco Connection

Big news for one of our fantastic local non-profits. Teen Kitchen Project is going to be featured in Costco's upcoming Costco Connection magazine!!! That's right, people from ALL over the US are going to learn about the amazing opportunities TKP offers teens while supporting the critically ill in the county of Santa Cruz (that is over 15 million members!!!). We are all invited to the magazine's Cover Party on Thursday, Dec. 4th, 5:30 to 7:00 PM at 3921 Soquel Drive Unit D. There will be wine, sparkling cider and, of course, Costco appetizers - Please join in the celebration! RSVP here.

Skiing / Snowboarding in March

The Largest Gathering of Sunrise Skiing/Snowboarding Rotarians will be Sunday March 1 to Wednesday March 4. Put it on your calendar and more info will be coming out. This annual snow event takes place at Northstar and we have two cabins (one courtesy of Deb Dutra) for convenient access to the slopes. Housing Matters Thanks Project Pajamas
Housing Matters put this out in the November Newsletters. Good Job, Ari!
This fall, Housing Matters was the grateful recipient of a beautiful act of generosity from Project Pajamas, the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Club, and Twin Lakes Church. Together, these partners provided dozens of brand-new pajamas to the children staying in the Rebele Family Shelter. Each pair of pajamas offers warmth, comfort, and a sense of normalcy to families working toward stable housing.
For parents experiencing homelessness, knowing their children can rest in something soft and new is a reminder that their community cares deeply about them. For the children, these pajamas are a tangible expression of kindness and belonging, symbols that even in challenging times, they are seen, valued, and supported. Acts like this help create moments of dignity and joy that reinforce the resilience and determination we see every day among the families we serve.
At Housing Matters, we know that resolving homelessness in Santa Cruz County takes all of us. Community partnerships like this one show how collective compassion can make a lasting impact, both in practical and deeply human ways. We are profoundly grateful to Project Pajamas, the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Club, and Twin Lakes Church for reminding us what a caring community can achieve when we come together.
Club supports Santa Cruz Second Harvest Food Bank
People got the news about our club's $25,000 contribution to Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County, yes? In the face of a rapidly escalating hunger crisis, it was well needed. And they were blown away by the amount - always a good thing!
