Through December and to Lunar New Year in February, Rotarians around the world are celebrating in many varied ways. Over the next few meetings we'll provide an opportunity to share. your holiday remembrances or share how and what your family celebrates.
This week Hanukkah started the evening of our meeting and Scott Edelstein shared his story about how his family celebrates and he brought sufganiyot to share.
Sufganiyot, like latkes, have become synonymous with the Hanukkah holiday. Fried foods, like jelly doughnuts, commemorate the miracle of the menorah oil. Oily foods have been made to symbolize the miracle of Hanukkah since the first celebration, but it wasn’t until the Middle Ages that jelly donuts became tied to Hanukkah. Today sufganiyot is considered a true Hanukkah culinary tradition.
Rotary Foundation
This week marked the kick-off of our annual Rotary Foundation Drive. Over the next month you'll be hearing much more about this drive and how you can help and participate.
John Flaniken and Rick Hofstetter presented Rotary's seven areas of focus, a short video (linked here) and talked about how the work of the Foundation doesn't just improve lives, it saves lives.

Our regular meetings are Thursday mornings at The Grill at DeLaveaga Golf Course, 401 Upper Park Road, Santa Cruz. Doors open at 7:00AM and the meeting starts at 7:15AM. You can also click here to join us on Zoom.
Breakfast with Santa December 21
For all of you with children, grandchildren, or youngsters in your life we are doing our annual visit with Santa at the meeting on Dec 21. There is a sign-up sheet to register your kid, tell us the age and any preferences for shopping and the club will surprise you and them with an age appropriate gift delivered directly from Santa Randall (oops…we spilled the beans!).
