Aaron Jacobs - Project Bike Tech
Project Bike Tech (PBT) is the only High School Accredited bike mechanic curriculum and career techincal education course in the U.S.
Aaron Jacobs joined us to describe how PBT was founded, shared his path to PBT, and how PBT has expanded from a local
Santa Cruz effort to a County effort and now a national program with a focus on programs for Indigenous populations. He describes their program is similar to the Autoshop in high school that some of us may have experienced.
If you're not familiar with the program, take a few minutes and
watch this week's video recording of Aaron's presentation. It's an exciting program that, like others, is a non-profit deserving of support.

Social Committee
As we wind down from the flurry of holidays shindigs, our Social Committee is stirring the pot of ideas for fun-filled Rotary happenings in this new year.
Thanks to Debra Feldstein for putting together an informative and engaging tour of the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History replete with wine, cheese and a world-class sunset.
February plans include a happy hour at Pomo Grill. Details TBD.
What we do have in ink on our calendar is a St. Patrick’s Day dinner at the home of Ann and Joe Ferrante. You will be hearing lots more about this.
We will hold a Social Committee planning meeting this coming Thursday, February 2, immediately after our club meeting. Let me know if you are interested in planning but can’t attend.
Community Service
Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotarians have been out in the community and, with other community members, participated in several recent volunteer events including Habitat for Humanity on 1/21, Felton flooded areas on 1/22, and the San Lorenzo River clean up on 1/28. Upcoming volunteer opportunities include a Coastal Watershed Council River Health Restoration day on 2/4, Beach Flats Nueva Vista work day on 3/4 and a Homeless Garden Project Farm work day on 3/25. Fundraising Committee Kickoff
This new committee met Tuesday and Thursday last week. The interest, and desire to contribute is amazing. Kudos to Rod Caborn who deftly shepherded lots of energy at both meetings.
The group is trying to make quick progress on two fronts. First, our vision and strategies for fundraising in the context of all the Club's business. This will include a review or creation of protocols and processes. Second, addressing some of the immediate practical fundraising needs for our events and more. In all of this, the group is considering the total "asks" of Club members and how best to manage that stream. Much more to follow as this committee gains momentum.
The Rotary Foundation
Russ Hobbs and the Planned Giving subcommittee of the District TRF committee has put together a Charitable Giving Workshop for Area 7 on Feb 21st that looks to be very interesting. Emily Buchbinder will be one of the presenters. See the
