It is rumored that the Reveille is published 2x a month; on the 1st and 3rd Sunday. For people paying attention, and that may be some of you, today is not Sunday.
Dr. Cal Gordon, Deputy Health Officer of Santa Cruz County will be coming to the meeting to talk about the healthcare career pipeline. My guess, and that is all it is, is that he will talk to us about The Health Improvement Partnership and the work they are doing to build, strengthen and diversify the Santa Cruz County healthcare workforce with qualified individuals who can best support and provide health services to the community.
Oct 17:Consuelo Alba, Watsonville Film Festival
Not that I live under a rock (and by the way, it is a very nice rock... very comfortable), but I had no idea that Watsonville has a film festival! The Watsonville Film Festival has a vision - they believe in the transformative power of film. The festival highlights Latinx filmmakers and stories that illuminate our shared humanity and inspire positive change.

The Sunrise Rotary Ride (aka, Jon and Ken’s Most Excellent Adventure) truly lived up to its name this year (whew.... I know a bunch of us were worried about that). It was Most Excellent! Even, dare I say it.... Epic!
Seventy-eight intrepid riders and fourteen dedicated and hard-working crew enjoyed perfect weather for the first two days of the 200-mile annual adventure. The third day brought mist and a head wind, but this did not quell the spirits of the riders! All told, the crew and other volunteers delivered a near perfect experience for the riders.
Best of all, we met our fundraising goals!
Our $75,000 gift to Treasure Cove completes the fundraising needs of that fantastic project.
We will also deliver $25,000 to each of Teen Kitchen Project, Skills of Life Café, and Boys and Girls Club of SCC.
Many thanks to the riders, crew, volunteers, and sponsors for making this event so special!
Here are some pictures from the ride. To see more, click one of these 2 links:
This year is the 10th anniversary of Project Pajamas, founded by our very own President Ari. The goal of the program is to provide a brand new pair of pajamas to any child within our county who is homeless, in transition or some other form of need. The kids who receive the pajamas have parents who are struggling. Sometimes they are struggling with criminal justice issues, addiction, homelessness, mental illness or often a combination of those things. Whatever the parent challenges, it is not the kids fault. When they arrive at a homeless shelter or similar place seeking help, Project Pajamas provides them with a brand new pair of pajamas, even if they stay just one night. Perhaps that new pair of PJs will make the child feel a little bit warmer or at least know that people care.
Some of the recipients of pajamas over the years include the Walnut Avenue Family and Women’s Center; the Rebele Family Homeless Shelter; the Pajaro Valley Homeless Shelter; the Salvation Army; Valley Churches United; the Sienna House; the Jesus, Mary and Joseph home; Monarch Services; The Boys and Girls Club; Barrios Unidos; Mountain Community Resources; Haven of Hope; Family Preservation Court; CASA; Jacob’s Heart; Partnership for Children (Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care); Above the Line; Encompass – Community Bridges;- La Manzana; New Life Community Center and children in foster care.
To participate, buy a new pair of PJS and leave the tags on. Some of the kids have never had anything new and the tags show that no one else has worn them. Bring to Rotary or drop off at Twin Lakes church.
To participate on the Volunteer Make a Difference Day, Oct 19, come to Twin Lakes Church by 9 a.m. to package PJs. Bring a box of gallon size ziploc baggies and a sharpie pen. Volunteers will package the PJs up by size and gender, then distribute to the community groups who have asked for them.
