It is a new Rotary year and yes, that means we have a new President! Come listen to President Ari talk about what she envisions for the new year, what our focus will be, what we will be working in. She promises it will be a fun year... some changes are a-coming and that is good!
Jul 18:Dave Mello / RYLA
RYLA, which stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards had a great year this past year in our District. We, yes we as in Sunrise Rotary, sponsored 10 students to attend. The cost for each camper was $950, and we covered it! Come to this meeting and hear the students talk about their experience, what they learned, what they took away. Always an inspiring meeting to hear these young future leaders share their experiences with us.
Jeff Gaffney and Terry Corwin gave us a solid strategic plan update on county parks. Lots going on.
Jun 27:Penni B's last meeting and Cabrillo Stage
The Jun 27 meeting was Penni Bengtson's last one as president. of our amazing club and she did a really goodwrap up of the year that was. Real fun to see the year in retrospective. We did do a lot. Thank you, Penni!

Jul 4:Founding Fathers & Firecrackers
The founding fathers sadly did not attend our meeting. We did have the Santa Cruz Firecracker race. As always, a great event - we will share highlights at an upcoming meeting.
The new Rotarian of the Month will be announced in the 1st meeting of Jul, which is next week. Watch this space....

Satellite Club Update

RYLA Update from Randall Leonard
On June 27, Randall attended the RYLA BBQ at Mission Springs. At the assembly Dave Mello was given a special award trophy for all the great work he has done over the years. The campers went crazy with their applaud and cheers. Very moving. Thank you, Dave!
Randall went on to write that "our club sponsored 10 campers which is the largest number for any Rotary club regardless of the club’s size. All the campers seemed to know this and many asked me about our club. The campers I spoke with knew very little about Rotary in general or our local club. That’s campers we sponsored and others. Maybe we should follow up by giving our campers a brief history of Rotary, our club, and what our club does and how.
I’ve gone to the BBQ before and again I was totally amazed by the campers. Their stories were amazing. They all felt their lives had been changed by the camp. They made me feel more positive about our future.
RYLA is great. We need to send 10 or more every year."
Agree, Randall. RYLA is great and we need to support it. And, thank you Dave for all you do for RYLA and the Club.

Thank you Randall for eating with me and my friends during the Ryla BBQ. It was much appreciated that you decided to eat with us even though we weren't a part of the Santa Cruz sunrise sponsorship. It was fun talking to you about architecture the military your wife and your job as a realtor and understanding the differences between my Rotary Club Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz Sunrise. Additionally it was fun to get your input on ideas such as how a bathroom should be designed for the most comfort. Overall conversing with you at the BBQ was amazing and I appreciated it. - From Tamanna K. P.S.
