UnChained’s mission is to provide California’s Central Coast youth with the opportunity for self-reflection and personal growth while training homeless dogs in need of adoption. Standing as a beacon of transformation on California's Central Coast, UnChained guides at-risk youth and homeless dogs on a journey of mutual healing.
Mar 27: Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation
The mission is to leave a thriving Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary to future generations by protecting wildlife and biodiversity, raising sanctuary visibility and awareness, and inspiring the public to be its stewards
Mary talked to us about Village Santa Cruz County, a non-profit, member support network for people to age in their communities. They have a pretty elaborate setup, which was very cool to hear about. I know I am going to get some people in my community involved. Social connection with others who value aging as a meaningful stage of life is important.
Mar 6: Speech Contest
We had 3 amazing young people participate in our speech contest. Kira McGlashan, Caitlin Blanton and Joaquin Wu all did a great job. Kira was the winner and she will go on to compete in the District contest on April 19th.
And, a huge thanks to Faris for all his work on this contest!
Our ROTM for March is Mark Boynton. Mark is the chair of the International Committee and helping our club help people around the world! Mark - Thank you for all you do and may you be recognized all March long.

Sat, March 22: Coastal Restoration Workday with Groundswell Coastal Ecology, from 8 am - 12 pm am - sign up NOW at the Sunrise Community Service page. This is the first in our 4 event / 8 month service project!
Sun, March 30: Housing Matters will host Picture This: Cultivating Our Compassionate Community, a curated storytelling event that will spotlight unique perspectives on what it means to build, sustain, and celebrate a culture of compassion within the context of resolving homelessness in Santa Cruz County. Presenters bring unique perspectives on the themes of equity, shared responsibility and power, and the honesty and bravery required to advance solutions. Because of our past partnership with Housing Matters, Sunrise Rotarians are personally invited to participate. Time: 5-6PM Cocktail Hour, 6-7:30PM Main Event at Hotel Paradox. Tickets are $30.

The next Standing Social will be after the board meeting on March 25th at McKenzie's. We also have an April Social scheduled for April 17th at 5:00 pm at Aptos Vineyards. It's a great opportunity to "wine down" after tax season!
For years Sunrise has had an annual ski trip that included a NASTAR race sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Tahoe City and Truckee but this ended with COVID. Now Sunrise skiers/boarders just go up and enjoy the snow, food, beverages and
fellowship. Great time was had by all! Each night after dinner Mark Junod posed a question and and each of us responded with deep, personal insights into what made us tick. Very helpful in getting to know one another and appreciate the special bond we enjoy thru Sunrise Rotary. Special thanks to our host, Deb Dutra for sharing her Northstar Cabin.
