Area 7 Speech Contest Tuesday, March 23 at 7:15am. Rotary Club of Santa Cruz Sunrise will be hosting the contest: The winner prize money ($200 first place & $100 second place), and the first place winner goes on to compete at the regional contest on March 30.
Jim Hart -- Santa Cruz County Sheriff. Hart joined the department in 1988 and has worked in every aspect of law enforcement from investigations to corrections. He has pushed for gun control and has enhanced community relations with his agency for the past 6 years.
Dr. Faris Sabbah -- our County Superintendent of Schools. A graduate of UCSC with a doctorate from UC-Berkeley, he pushed for a data-driven culture of improvement, safe spaces for all students, and programs that support diversity, equity and inclusion for all students. And he is a hardworking member of our the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Club!
Bruce McPherson -- a veteran member of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors representing District 5, which covers the San Lorenzo Valley and parts of Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz. He has been California's Secretary of State and represented Santa Cruz County for two terms each in the California Assembly and Senate. He has led improvements in our parks, libraries, law enforcement, and energy use.
