Rod Caborn Celebration of Life
-- Peggy Pollard --

A burning meteor of positivity just blazed through our lives in SCSR Rotary.

Rod Caborn's Celebration of Life packed the Coconut Grove Ballroom last Sunday with people, like myself, still dazzled by the sparks flying off of Rod's 66 years of living.

Rod's brother and childhood pals from England, his daughters Santa Cruz friends, and our Rotarian Karen Gosling, shared stories of their epic adventures.

From my first day meeting Rod as President of our Rotary club, I too was drawn into his irresistible tractor beam of enthusiasm. I found myself doing things I had no intention of, convinced by Rod's golden words it was the best thing ever. Rod channeled his world-class persuasiveness into changing, not only the lives of the 800 people in the ballroom, but the entire world, fundraising for Santa Cruz schools, nonprofits and our lifesaving Rotary projects, including Uganda and Guatemala. Rod's glorious fire of goodness burns on in all of us who knew him. Give like Rod.

Editor's Add - it was a lovely memorial, attended by close to 500 people. Amazing to see how many people came over from England. The Caborn girls did an amazing job pulling it all together - loved hearing the lessons he taught them (never say no when life offers up an adventure / be "in" for things). Also, for folks who missed it, Jon Winston live streamed it and the video is available for people to watch.

Santa Cruz in the New York Times
Our little town was featured in the New York Times in their 36 hours series. Check out what the NYT says people should do in 36 hours in Santa Cruz.
