Dave Campbell got the meeting going with an awesome musical opening.
Brent then talked about the Bike Ride. We raised $175,000 - which is pretty amazing. Brent Dunton, our race director, thanked all the members involved and who make it happen. He, and others, also talked about the great time that was had by all. It was really quite interesting to hear the stories.
A giant check for $75,000 was presented to our primary beneficiary, Boys and Girls Club of Santa Cruz. Fear not, they were also given a regular check that they can deposit in the bank.
We also distributed a giant, and regular, check for $25k to a secondary beneficiary, Project Bike Tech.
2 of our other beneficiaries were not able to make it. Checks for $25k will be given to FoodWhat?! and Mnts2Sea.

Please come and listen to Leslie O'Malley, Waste Reduction Program Manager for the City of Santa Cruz, and a personal friend of mine. Leslie will speak to us about waste reduction and sustainability.
Project Pajamas
Next week is the final opportunity to donate for Project Pajamas. The goal of Project Pajamas is to provide a new pair of PJ's to every child in a homeless shelter or other form of emergency housing in Santa Cruz County. Children leave their homes when their parents are in distress, perhaps with a mother who is fleeing a batterer, or an addicted parent who seeks treatment. Or, perhaps they simply do not have a home at all. They often come to the shelters with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Whatever the causes of the distress, it is not the child's fault nor under their control. It must be very scary to spend nights in an unknown place. Project Pajamas believes that if the child is given a new pair of pajamas their very first night, they may feel a little warmer and safer and perhaps will sleep better.
If you can, please bring a pair, or 2 or 3, of new pajamas to the next meeting and give them to Penni. We need lots of pajamas!
