Ed Mattson, Board Chair for the Rotary International Cancer Support Group and Rotary Ambassador at Large, accompanied by his wife Irina, gave a moving presentation on his life's work of improving medical care for underserved populations around the globe, especially children with cancer.

Ed speaks to hundreds of Rotary clubs around the world each year.  His mission is to raise awareness about the poor medical conditions to which most citizens of the planet are subjected.   It is particularly serious with respect to children and cancer.

Ed is quick to point out how lucky we are to live in the United States, where health care is second to none.  In the US, the recovery rate for most childhood cancers is nearly 100%.  In the rest of the non-Western world, nearly 85% don't make it.

Marshalling the resources of Rotary, the US Marines and humanitarians everywhere, Mr. Mattson has established a clearing house through which surplus medical equipment and supplies can be accumulated then successfully delivered to where the need is greatest.  He has created a network of cancer survivors, physican's and researchers within Rotary that serve as a resource to all Rotarians and their families dealing with cancer.
