Rotary Newsletter 5/18/2017

On May 3rd, we had our recipients breakfast where we were able to donate $23,500 to local charities!
Our deepest sympathies go out to Dan Dull and his family for the loss of his brother this month.  We are so sorry for you loss.

We had two speakers at todays meeting. Our first was Gus Gustafson who told us a little about his life.  He graduated from Boardman High School in 1948 and went out of high school to work at the rail road as a yard conductor.  He worked there 18 years and then opened up Gustafson's TV and Antenna where he worked until he retired 2 years ago.  Gus has been married to his wife, Carolyn, for 51 years.

We also had Mike Vagas, guidance counselor at Poland High School for the last 2 years, come in and tell us a little about the good that Poland High School Students are doing.   This year, Poland will graduate 169 students and 140 of those students are going to College with nearly 3 million dollars in scholarships!!  Hew also talked a little about Big Dog/Little Dog which is a program started by our very own former member, Mike Massucci.  Its a program where high school students mentor younger students.  Poland is having a Family Fun Night on June 2 to benefit a student who suffered brain aneurism and her family to help defray some of the costs of her medical care.

We had three votes today and all three passed unanimously.  The first was to move the funds from the fall gold outing to club funds instead of Chili Open Funds.  Todd motioned, Shelly second.  Motion Passes.

The second was to increase dues to $200 per half.  Dan motioned, Todd Second.  Motion Passes.

Lastly, the budget was brought before the club for discussion and vote.  Jim motioned, Dan second.  Motion passes.

Flags will be going up before Memorial Day so if you are able to install, please contact either David, Tim or Chris.  We have about 200 flags.

Lastly, Nicole Hafke submitted her resignation letter to the club.  It is with regret that we hear this but she doesn't feel like she can give the club her all right now with her very busy life.  She will be missed.
