Theater 101:

In the past the Stage used to be slopped because they weren't able to have the seating like we do now, there was a "down stage" "center stage" and "up stage" this is where the term "Upstaging" came from.

Youngstown has always been know for their entertainment, back in the 30's-40's all the Youngstown theaters used to have live entertainment.

Many people remember the rich tradition of the live entertainment of our area. "If you think your good, play Youngstown" going back to an old saying of how Youngstown used to have such great talent.

We have so many Theaters in our area, Youngstown Playhouse- over 70 years old.

Regina much of the past, the history and the current play and theater options in our valley.

Plays are expensive to put on, sets, scripts, and more expenses to get it all ready to go. But the good entertainment continues today.

Hopewell started in 1992 by Dr. Jean Kelty at YSU- They wanted to focus on plays from the Victorian area.

Hopewell Theatre, christened The Little Theater off Spring Common by its founder, Dr. Jean Kelty, is like no other theater. Dr. Kelty converted a lovely 1890 church into a small, intimate theater, the home of The Victorian Players. Although our name has changed to match our expanded scope, we still see our patrons as family and are eager to meet and chat with members of the audience after the performance. We want all to feel that they are an important part of every play that we perform.
