Chip Kirchner just announced that United Way has matched our increased commitment of $30,000 to the Summer Youth Partnership. Part of this commitment is to create a video of the Summer Youth Experience and will include video from the Wheels & Wings festival. Funded agencies are invited to ask their staff and youth who benefit from their services to walk the grounds to thank supporters. Bob McClenathan honored by District 7390 with Award
At the 2023 Rotary District 7390 Conference on Saturday evening, DG Juliet Altenburg had the honor of presenting the District Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022-2023 to Bob McClenathan.
Past President Bob’s Rotary years read like a case study in exceptional commitment to humanitarian service. He has a passion for Humanitarian Medical Projects. Bob is a retired Doctor of Optometry who maintains his license in order to provide eye care to patients overseas during his many Rotary projects. He has provided eye care and low vision care through The Rotary Foundation’s grant programs during 22 international projects, having been either the team leader, a team member, or written the grant applications.
Bob joined RCL in 1987. He has been very involved on various RCL boards and committees, and served as Club President during our centennial year in 2015-2016. At the District level, Bob served as Area Foundation Coordinator for several years and is currently serving as the Group F Assistant Governor. He has also served on the District Grant Committee as part of Global Grants for the past 15 years.
Previously Bob was recognized when he was entered into the The Rotary Foundation Hall of Honor and received the Citation Of Meritorious Service in 2017 and previously entered into the District 7390 Hall of Honor when he received the Service Above Self Award in 2007.
Bob is a living example of the concept that the more engaged you become in Rotary, the more you get out of it.

Notes from our "Fifth Wednesday" service project:
"I would like to celebrate the success of today's event, and thank all of those who participated. We packed 10,000 meals in an HOUR and 15 minutes!" – Congratulations from President Russ
In the first of our “Fifth Wednesday” meetings featuring hands-on service projects, 57 club members came together to pack 10,000 meals at the Farm & Home Center for Food Hub/Outreach.
We filled The Outreach Program's "Rice and Bean" meal packets for the Food Hub.
The packet contents are to be added to 7 cups of boiling water and cooked for 20 minutes.
5 teams of 11 or 12 volunteers filled and sealed packets of meals holding 6 servings each.
Then the plastic packs were heat sealed and packed in cartons of 36 packs (216 servings).
Each team did 9-10 cartons, that is 1,944 to 2,160 servings, for a total of 10,000 servings.
When teams filled a carton with 36 sealed packets, they rang a bell and everyone cheered.
Teams were made up of Rotarians and also their friends and spouses.
The 5 teams packed 10,000 meals in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Congratulations!
This is a vital service to our community, and our strong turnout for this project is a tribute to the ongoing commitment of our members. In an innovative move, President Russ and our Board of Directors designated the fifth Wednesday of any month that has one (there are four this year) as a day of service, and this past Wednesday was the first of these service project.
Immediate Past president Rob Gallagher announced that the process of proposing the nominees for the three openings in the Board of Directors needed to start over since one of the nominees withdrew and there were not the required number of nominees left. This situation has been remedied and the new slate of nominees is:

President Russ Announced Hess Catering is Returning
President Russ announced agreement with Hess Catering and the Farm & Home Center. Hess's will return, catering our April 5th meeting. The meal will include two entree selections. The price will rise to $18. This is an overdue increase, and comes with Hess's proven quality.
President Russ negotiated a flat-rate agreement with the Farm & Home Center. This means we can continue our long relationship with the center.

Rotary Rendezvous meets April 12!
Rotary Rendezvous has become a highlight of RCL business and social gatherings, and a fun event for current and potential new members. Anyone who is interested in joining our committee, looking for fellowship, or simply a night out, please join us for Rotary Rendezvous on Wednesday, April 12, at Southern Market in Lancaster. Parking is available at the Steinman garage or folks can find side street parking.
Rotary Rendezvous meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.

Give Prepaid Lunch Tickets to Prospective New Members
This is a great way to invite new members! Crystal has "prepaid" lunch tickets that you can purchase and give to prospective new members when you invite them to a meeting. This way you don't have to worry about paying for their meal when they come or, for that matter, even being present when they come.
Ryotaro Tashiro from Federal Reserve Bank to Speak April 12
We have an exciting and exceptionally timely program coming up on April 12th and we are encouraging all members to attend. We have a high-profile speaker, so this would be a great opportunity to invite guests to join us!
Ryo Tashiro, Senior Outreach Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia will be our speaker. Ryo will provide a regional economic outlook, share data on the economic impact of the pandemic and recovery, and describe the role of the Federal Reserve Bank in monetary policy both nationally and regionally.
During his presentation, Ryo will ask Rotarians and guests in the room to share their views and observations on the economy, especially if their observations deviate from the Fed's data. As local leaders, we will have the opportunity to share what we are seeing that could help with monetary policy recommendations.

Like Fun & Car Shows? You can help spread the word about WW5K!
UPDATE: The event is now listed in Cruise News and we have our web page up and running for competitors. Flyers will soon be available for distribution.
Our 2023 Wheels & Wings Festival & 5K Run (WW5K) will be Saturday, June 24, and there will be numerous opportunities for all RCL members to volunteer – including before the event. According to Steve Stockwell, who heads up the car show registrations, the subcommittee would like to distribute registration flyers to participants at selected car shows throughout Lancaster County and beyond in April, May, and early June. If you like going to car shows, or simply have some time to take a Saturday afternoon ride this spring, please consider volunteering to help spread the word about our own WW5K.
We will soon have a schedule of all the car shows in the area. Contact Steve or subcommittee co-chairs Amy Lewis or Jamie Dalton to join the effort. Future issues of the Transmitter will share the many other ways members can volunteer to support our big fundraiser.
