"Tyrone 'Ty' Bair, Co-Founder of Advantage Lancaster"
Advantage Lancaster, part of the 2022 Summer Youth Expereience
During the just completed summer months our Club committed $20,000 which was matched equally by the United Way to support 12 agencies which developed programs for local youths to combat summer learning loss with enriching educational experiences. These agencies competed for our support with proposals that our Summer Youth Experience Committee chose as the best activity for improved learning in the selected youth.
This week’s program will highlight one of these programs, Advantage Lancaster, which provided education mentorship and experiential learning for 50 middle and high school students from the School District of Lancaster. The program operated five days a week from mid-June through the end of July using the facilities of Stevens College of Technology. All students participated in English, Math and Science classes emphasizing hands-on learning, when possible, using different ecosystems in the area. There are five Pillars that undergird all activities of this Program – Education, The Arts, Wellness, Community Service and Career Readiness. Participant attendance has been a consistent 100% over the years of the program’s existence. The culminating event, each year, is a well- planned college visitation experience. This summer students visited University of Cincinnati and Xavier University in Ohio.
Our presenter is Tyrone “Ty” Bair, who is a native of Lancaster. He attended Washington, Hand (now Jackson) middle and McCaskey schools. He pursued his education at Heston College in Kansas and West Chester University where he completed his BS in Education degree specializing in Social Studies. He currently teaches 7th grade Social Studies at Reynolds Middle School. Ty is a Founder of Advantage Lancaster which began in 2001, he is the current Director and has been so for 21 years.
This presentation will be followed by a meeting of both the Community and Fundraising Committees.

The Board of Directors has been working hard to restructure the Club on many fronts to re-engage members, and continue our strong tradition of Service, and put our strategic plan at the front and center of everything we do. It’s time to do what we do best!
It was revealed that the board re-aligned committee structures to more accurately reflect our club's priorities and streamline programs. They realigned the committees from 32 to 12. Please find the attached committee structures and descriptions.
Russ announced they are restructuring the weekly meetings to emphasize Rotary Service and allow more time for member-to-member engagement. 2 Meeting a month will be focused on getting club business done and accomplishing these items

Dues Invoices are out
The Dues Invoices have been emailed. They include an increase to $101 quarterly, $202 semi-annually or $404 annually. They may be paid by credit card at meetings. Or they can be made payable and mailed to: Rotary Club of Lancaster; P.O. Box 1387, Lancaster, PA 17608. There are also options to pre-pay for lunch fees. They are for 13 weeks, 26 weeks, or 52 weeks at $16 per week. Any meeting paid and not attended will be donated to the Club. There will be no refunds for this service.

Rotary Rendezvous meeting September 28
Anyone who is interested in joining our committee, looking for fellowship, or simply a night out, please join us for Rotary Rendezvous on Wednesday, September 28. The location will be announced. Arrive anytime between 5-5:30pm for drinks and fellowship.

Refugee Center Needs Career Mentors
Immediate Need for a Mentor with an Insurance Background.
Josh McManness announced the Refugee Center's new Volunteer Career Pathway Mentoring Project. They are looking for volunteers to meet one-on-one with a participant that needs to improve their skills so they can fit into the workplace in a field related to their profession. This includes language skills, licensing, and an orientation to career positions and training available in their profession. They key to this program is to relate to the needs of the participant.

Annual Rotary Golf Scramble
Brad Reynolds announced that the RCL Annual Rotary Golf Scramble will be held at Overlook golf course on September 22nd, with tee times beginning at one o’clock. The cost is $65 , and includes golf, cart, prizes, beer and a box lunch. Guests are welcome, and you can make up your own foursome. You may signup at meetings.

Power Packs Needs Volunteers
Power Packs is a great program in many local school district that provides a recipe with ingredients for a meal, as well as some staples like cereal, fruits and milk to help support students over weekends. Years ago our club helped financially to get this program up and running. Since then we have been providing volunteers, special request items like crock pots and occasionally funding gifts.
This school year, weekly on Wednesdays we will serve as we pick up prepackaged boxes (the packs) for over 60 families and deliver them to Washington Elementary and Reynolds Middle School. We are looking for volunteers for this school year. It takes about an hour on Wednesdays, but does not overlap our Rotary meeting. Large vehicles like trucks, vans and SUVs are great, but we spit some loads so smaller cars can help as well. We ask for availability and provide a schedule. You do not need to be available every or even most weeks to be an important part of this service. If you would like to learn more, please let the coordinating volunteers, Clint Krushinsky or Amy Lewis, know.

Lancaster Rotary Regatta
Gil Lyons announced that the Lancaster Rotary Regatta is coming back September 23 to 25. Five sail boats have been lined up. Party boats and power boats are invited to visit. For more information contact Gil.
