"No Meeting on January 20!
"The Mayor has chosen to move her talk with us to March 24.
As we do not have a replacement speaker, we are cancelling our January 20th meeting. During normal times, if we did not have a speaker we would still get together and have lunch, sing and listen to announcements. I wish we could do that now.
I will "see" you next week (January 27) when our speaker will be Mike McKenna with Tabor. So, enjoy at least one less Zoom meeting next week".

"Mike McKenna, President Tabor Community Services, Inc" - Zoom Mtg
Michael is the new President of Tabor Community Services, Inc. Most recently he served as Chief Impact Officer at Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County (CAP), an anti-poverty organization where he has the privilege of supporting a number of high quality programs like Head Start, WIC, Navigation, and Domestic Violence Services. Under Michael’s leadership, CAP’s nearly two dozen programs restructured into four Impact Teams that align with the organization’s core competencies and the community’s needs: Education and Child Development, Household Stability, Health and Nutrition, and Safety and Empowerment. Michael is a leader in a countywide effort to create a “no wrong door” approach to social services through a shared database called Empower Lancaster. Previously Michael served as the Director of the WIC program at CAP. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Hunger Free Lancaster County, Lancaster Public Library, and Milagro House. Michael is passionate about reducing hunger and poverty, objectives he also worked on in previous roles with the Center for Community Service and Justice at Loyola University in Baltimore, Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, and the US Department of State. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree from Georgetown University. Michael and his wife and young daughter love calling Lititz home.

Refugee Center and Community School Citizenship Program
I’d like to sincerely thank you all for your support and generous donations to this year’s Secret Angel project. Please join me in watching a short informational video about this year’s Secret Angel project that Cate Gorham, Community School Director at Reynolds Middle School, created. In the video, you’ll see some information about this year’s Secret Angel project as well as some pictures of distribution of the gift cards.
I’d also like to talk about the next project of the Rotary Refugee Center and Community School Committee, the Rotary Citizenship Program.
Many of you have volunteered in the past with our Rotary Citizenship Program to help adult English Learners practice for their upcoming Citizenship test. This year, much like our Secret Angel Project, things will look a bit different because all of our Citizenship classes are being taught remotely via Zoom. Beginning on February 3rd, Rotarians will have the opportunity to join our Citizenship classes remotely via Zoom to help students practice their citizenship interview questions. Both morning and evening options to volunteer are available. There will be a volunteer process, training, and procedure that will be rolled out to you via email soon and during upcoming club announcements. For the morning, volunteers will be able to assist on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM. For the evening class, volunteers will be able to assist on Thursdays from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM. Please stay tuned for more information regarding how you can volunteer to help our students become U.S. citizens, and start thinking now about whether or not you’d like to volunteer in this exciting program.

Let's All Sing Again!
In 2021 we resumed singing a patriotic song to open each of our meetings. We’ll also sing a group song the first Wednesday of each month and the Birthday Song when birthdays are recognized.
Singing is good for the soul! Yet we’ve had little or no opportunity the last nine months to croon, let alone bellow, except in the shower. So turn up your headphones or speakers and sing heartily. Jamie and I will provide piano accompaniment so you’ll have some support. It may be awkward at first to sing on Zoom, and it won’t be like singing at the Farm and Home Center, but it will give us a chance to stretch our vocal chords and diaphragms.
Let’s have some fun!

Rotary Global Grants Scholarship – District 7390 – 2020/2021 Rotary year
Rotary Global Grants Scholarships fund an awardee’s first year of graduate study abroad in one of Rotary’s six Areas of Focus (listed below). Candidates must live in or attend college in District 7390, which encompasses Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties in Pennsylvania.
Scholarship highlights…
Plan to pursue career in one of Rotary’s Areas of Focus (listed below).
Award is for first year only of graduate studies abroad
District 7390 will not fund any applicant’s study which is for the second or later year of a multi-year graduate study program abroad.
Minimum study budget of $30,000 per year. Award capped at $30,000.

Joy from John Herr: John Herr and Diane Koken celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary and the birth of their granddaughter this past weekend in Brooklyn.
Joy from Rob Gallagher: Rob Gallagher has a joy today that he just purchased Neighbors magazine that serves the residents of Bent Creek. The magazine has been in print for the past 7 years. He is super excited about it.
