“The Preparation, Physical Challenges & Equipment of Climbing Mt. Everest,” Terry Schuck
Terry has been involved in high altitude mountaineering since 2000, having participated in more than 15 expeditions on four continents. In 2004, he summited his first 8000-meter peak, Cho Oyu, which is the sixth highest mountain in the world. Three years later, he summitted Mt Everest.
When not climbing, Terry lives on a farmette in southern Lancaster County and is a manager leading a team that performs testing of pharmaceuticals. Hobbies include running (finished 15 marathons), antique cars, and taking care of animals on the farm.
Abstract
In 2007, Terry traveled to Nepal to attempt climbing to the summit of Mt Everest. This talk will feature the preparation, physical challenges, and equipment needed to climb the world’s highest peak, as well as the culture and insights on the Sherpa people that inhabit the region near Mt Everest.
