This week’s meeting will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church 119 N. Duke Street, Lancaster, starting with the Holy Week Service at 11:30am with lunch & program at noon after the service in the Parrish Hall.

Rev. David W. Peck came to Lancaster in 2008 after serving the Archbishop of Canterbury in Lambeth Palace as his Secretary for International Development. His interest in justice and peace issues continue while he develops new horizons in the parish for education and contemplative prayer. He recently completed sabbatical studies on Mercy in Jerusalem and The West Bank and in 2013 completed a 30-day silent Ignatian retreat at the Jesuit Center in Wernersville, PA. He is married to Dr. Cordelia Moyse and they rejoice in their daughter, Theodora.
Marlyn Barbosa Tec Centro
Marlyn Barbosa is the director of Tec Centro, the Spanish American Civic Association’s bilingual job training center.
The center, which opened in February 2014, prepares students for careers in the health-care field, culinary arts and in the plumbing, electrical and carpentry trades.
More than 50 students graduated recently, including six in carpentry trades — all six of whom had jobs guaranteed before they graduated.
“People move here to reach the American dream, and we are believers in that,” said Barbosa, 33. Barbosa is proof. She was born in Puerto Rico, and in 2007 she and her husband moved to Lancaster County. He had grown up here before moving to Puerto Rico.
She had a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences and a minor in education from the University of Puerto Rico. But with no experience and a language barrier, she couldn’t find a job.
She turned to SACA, becoming a client learning to improve her English.
Barbosa did and was hired by SACA as an education coordinator.

Presidential Grant Awarded
Jennifer Thompson of Power Packs accepted a $2,000 check from the Club as one of Prez Althea’s Presidential Grants. Power Packs was started with a $5,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Lancaster.

Preserve Planet Earth April 26th event
Peter Barber reminded the Club that Friday, April 26, 2019 is Arbor Day and the Preserve Planet Earth will be planting trees.
Help is needed Wednesday, April 24th to prepare tree planting areas.
Help is then needed on Friday 8:30am to 1:00pm on Friday, April 26th to plant trees.
This is a great opportunity to give back to the community, meet new friends, have fellowship with fellow Rotarians and get some exercise, plus it a Make-up! Wow, all that packed into one event!
Rotary Refugee Center Committee
The Refugee Center Committee is delighted that all volunteer coaching positions for the Rotary Citizenship Program have been filled. Thank you to all who have graciously offered their time to help refugees and immigrants become U.S. citizens.
Volunteer coaches, please note that the location of the Wednesday, April 17th, 10:30 a.m.-to-noon coaches training has changed to St. James Episcopal Church, the same venue as our general Rotary meeting.
