"State of the Regional Economy"
We have an exciting and exceptionally timely program coming up on April 12th and we are encouraging all members to attend. We have a high-profile speaker, so this would be a great opportunity to invite guests to join us!
Ryo Tashiro, Senior Outreach Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia will be our speaker. Ryo will provide a regional economic outlook, share data on the economic impact of the pandemic and recovery, and describe the role of the Federal Reserve Bank in monetary policy both nationally and regionally.
During his presentation, Ryo will ask Rotarians and guests in the room to share their views and observations on the economy, especially if their observations deviate from the Fed's data. As local leaders, we will have the opportunity to share what we are seeing that could help with monetary policy recommendations.

Previewing our groundbreaking April 19 Meeting:
RCL holds a Special Judicial Election Forum
Lisa M. Driendl-Miller (left), Executive Director of the Lancaster Bar Association, and Judge Karen Maisano (right) will be the speakers in our Judicial Forum on April 19.
Don’t miss next week’s pre-Primary forum for local judicial candidates – and a revealing look into the selection and nomination process. The event has gained local media interest because it’s an unusual attempt to pull the curtain back on how candidates, often with low public recognition or without a qualified rating from the Bar Association, are chosen to run for powerful, lengthy judgeships.
The innovative, newsworthy program was conceived by Past President Wally Otto. He has been the spark for making it happen, despite pushback from some in the political establishment. Ironically, the event is taking on an unexpected newsworthy spin as some candidates for the May primary and the political party that nominated them have backed out. However, the Lancaster County Bar Association will participate.
Don’t miss this very important event. A preregistration process for the April 19 meeting will be announced next week. Members will be permitted to invite two guests, and must accompany them into the meeting. Watch for full details in next week’s Transmitter!

We had a good turnout for the election of directors, for productive meetings of the Fundraising and the Community Committees, and to welcome back Hess's Catering. Fundraising focused almost exclusively on our June 24 Wheels and Wings Festival. See separate WW5K articles below, with significant updates.

Bob McClenathan recognized by Club for District 7390 Award
Bob McClenathan was given a standing ovation for his receiving a well-earned District Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022-2023 from District 7390.
Past President Bob is a retired Doctor of Optometry who maintains his license in order to provide eye care to patients overseas during his many Rotary projects. He has provided eye care and low vision care for 22 international projects through the Rotary Foundation’s grant programs either as the team leader, a team member, or by writing the grant application.
Previously Bob was recognized when he was entered into the Rotary Foundation's Hall of Honor and received the Citation Of Meritorious Service in 2017 and previously when he entered into District 7390's Hall of Honor when he received the Service Above Self Award in 2007.
Bob is a living example of the concept that the more engaged you become in Rotary, the more you get out of it.

Jamie Alton announced that our Wheels and Wings Festival & 5K (WW5K) will feature WWII warbirds (vintage aircraft) from the Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.
Chip Kirchner announced that United Way has matched our increased commitment of $30,000 to the Summer Youth Partnership. Part of this commitment is to create a video of the Summer Youth Experience and will include video from the Wheels & Wings festival. Funded agencies are invited to ask their staff and youth who benefit from their services to walk the grounds to thank supporters. It’s not too early to reserve Saturday, June 24 for a day of Rotary volunteer service – and fun!
Meal prices are $18, an overdue increase, but will feature the choice of 2 entrees and their familiar quality and service. This past week they featured: pork BBQ sandwiches, salmon, butternut squash soup, garden salad, rice, green beans, fresh fruit, and an amazing assortment of pies.
Hess's has been our preferred caterer since May 2001. We have new agreements with Hess Catering and the Farm & Home center, our home since June 1970.

Rotary Rendezvous meets April 12!
Rotary Rendezvous has become a highlight of RCL business and social gatherings, and a fun event for current and potential new members. Anyone who is interested in joining our committee, looking for fellowship, or simply a night out, please join us for Rotary Rendezvous on Wednesday, April 12, at Southern Market in Lancaster. Parking is available at the Steinman garage or folks can find side street parking.
Rotary Rendezvous meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.
Arrive anytime between 5-5:30pm for drinks and fellowship.

Give Prepaid Lunch Tickets to Prospective New Members
This is a great way to invite new members! Crystal has "prepaid" lunch tickets that you can purchase and give to prospective new members when you invite them to a meeting. This way you don't have to worry about paying for their meal when they come or, for that matter, even being present when they come. If you bought "prepaid" lunch tickets for $16, you will need to add $2 to the ticket since lunches are now $18.
UPDATE: The event is now listed in Cruise News and we have our web page up and running for competitors. Flyers will soon be available for distribution.
Our 2023 Wheels & Wings Festival & 5K Run (WW5K) will be Saturday, June 24, and there will be numerous opportunities for all RCL members to volunteer – including before the event. According to Steve Stockwell, who heads up the car show registrations, the subcommittee would like to distribute registration flyers to participants at selected car shows throughout Lancaster County and beyond in April, May, and early June. If you like going to car shows, or simply have some time to take a Saturday afternoon ride this spring, please consider volunteering to help spread the word about our own WW5K.
We will soon have a schedule of all the car shows in the area. Contact Steve or subcommittee co-chairs Amy Lewis or Jamie Dalton to join the effort. Future issues of the Transmitter will share the many other ways members can volunteer to support our big fundraiser.
