June 15 Meeting is a Live Only Meeting
 
"No Zoom in June"
 
The Pandemic has certainly been an adjustment for all of us.  For several years, we have used Zoom to attend the meetings and it has helped us "see one another".  Thankfully, our weekly in -person member attendance has increased.  In order for the Rotary Club of Lancaster to get back to some sort of normalcy, the Board has decided on "No Zoom in June".  We would like to have in-person meetings only and see all of you, our members, back and seated at the tables at the Farm & Home Center.  We most certainly will enjoy the conversations with one another (in-person) as we had prior to the Pandemic.

Common Cause Pennsylvania

As the Executive Director, Khalif works with the Program Advocate to develop and execute a civic and political campaign that builds an inclusive and responsive Democracy.

Khalif comes to Common Cause with a background in community organizing, leadership development, and advocacy. He has worked closely with many of the advocacy groups in Pennsylvania through his previous position as Director of Public Policy & Advocacy with the Pittsburgh Foundation and most recently lead the 2020 Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Campaign for the National Urban League.

Khalif holds a Masters of Social Work and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Corporate Communications

Common Cause has an innovative, pragmatic, and comprehensive pro-democracy agenda. Our work leads and defines the democracy reform movement, promoting solutions already succeeding in some communities to shift power to the people and away from wealthy special interests and partisan ideologues.

I believe Americans deserve open, honest, accountable government.

We know the ultimate power in a democracy is the people. We are more than 1 million powerful, fearless, ordinary Americans working together to build a democracy that works for us all.

Kalif will be highlighting some of the areas that Common Cause works upon.

Wheels, Wings & 5K Committee Announces Date:  June 25
 
Wheels, Wings, & 5K committee raised $41,185 in sponsorships.
Signup sheets are available at meetings, or call Jamie.  Volunteers are being  solicited for all positions.   Please join them to make our Club's signature community event and fundraiser a roaring success this year.  Now they need volunteers to 1) collect items for grab bags and the raffle, 2)do marketing at car shows, 3) develop online registration for vendors and attendees, 4) develop the 4K, and 5) seek sponsorships.

Make This Year A Great Foundation Year!
 
We’re entering our last month of the 2021-2022 Rotary Year and as Nick Downey outlined at our weekly meeting, we’re north of $20,000 in giving to the Rotary Foundation. That’s the best level of commitment our club has enjoyed since Covid. If we can contribute an additional $9,000 before June 30, we will achieve our $30,000 goal.
 
This might sound like a broken record, but our Foundation contributions help to fund projects for clean water, women’s and children’s health initiatives, sanitary systems, education, and other basic environmental, community, and food needs; and polio plus. There’s probably a good thing in sounding like a broken record. That means the Rotary Foundation is very consistent in their approach to funding the basics in our world. Not a lot of change and lots of great oversight to meeting these fundamentals. If we provide for the fundamentals for people, they can then listen to us about how to achieve world peace. Otherwise, they’re focused on finding the fundamentals!
 
As you consider a final gift for this year to the Rotary Foundation, consider one other important item. When the Rotary Club of Lancaster applies for an international or a community matching grant, the size of our contributions to the foundation impact our ability to receive the grant we need, and our club does have great ideas.
For those of you that have contributed $21,168 so far this year; thank you, thank you, thank you! We look forward to concluding the year with the word GREAT.

Lancaster Rotary Regatta
 
Gil Lyons announced that the Lancaster Rotary Regatta is coming back September 23 to 25.  Several sail boats have been lined up.  Motor boats are invited to visit.  Details will become available.  For more information contact Gil.

Tom Gemmill is always looking for ideas to add to the list of potential programs.  Thanks to those that have come up with ideas.  He currently has a list of over twenty five ideas to work on.  If you have any ideas, please contact Tom at tomgemmill.tg@gmail.com.
 
The programs the Lancaster Rotary Club has are truly phenomenal.  Kudos to Tom for such great programs and for all of the effort he puts into tracking down and scheduling these speakers and getting their programs summaries, bios and introducers.  Great job Tom!  We appreciate it.
