Rotary Rendezvous – Dan Dye August 28th Rotary Rendezvous
Those of you who were here last week will not soon forget the powerful story told by Kayla Schneider, who was sexually abused by a 42-year-old police officer and firefighter when she was 12. Our speaker at Rotary Rendezvous next week is the attorney who prosecuted her case and got Kayla’s abuser sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison.
At the time Dan Dye was an Assistant District Attorney in Lancaster County. Today he is a Senior Deputy Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was the lead prosecutor for the grand jury investigation into child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.
Dan will join us for Rotary Rendezvous next Wednesday, August 28, at 5:30 p.m. at Stoner Grill at Overlook Park in Manheim. He’ll be talking about the Lancaster County Children’s Alliance and how its processes hold abusers accountable while helping victims begin to heal. Come for drinks at 5. The program will start at 5:30. If you want, stay for dinner afterward. It promises to be a fascinating conversation.
Dan is a graduate of Kent State University and Penn State Dickinson School of Law. He lives in Lancaster County with his wife and two children.
Prison Tour
Board Member Eric Elliott announced to the Club that there are other prison tours on September 9th & 23rd with limited space available. Please contact Kathy Hainley if interested.
These tours are informative and are to provide an insight for possible prison upgrades or new facility.
2019 Golf Outing
Brad Reynolds is announcing that the RCL Golf Outing will be held at Overlook on September 26th. Sign-up will start this week at the meeting. It will again be a scramble format and we look forward to having a good turnout this year. $65 for golf & beer.
International Man of Travel
Tom Hoober shared Club Flags with the Club after making-up in the state of Washington & overseas in India.
Tom visited The Rotary Club of Seattle and mentioned that it is the 4th oldest Rotary Club in the world. He also visited The Rotary Club of Snoqualmie.
Tom spoke of his work with the Polio Plus Program, which took him to New Delhi, India. He highly recommends any Rotarian to volunteer for Polio Plus program missions.
Tip-Off Tourney
Jim Shenk & Kaitlyn Blosser spoke on behalf of the Tip-Off Committee. Jim stated this year’s major fundraiser event will November 15th through the 17th.
Kaitlyn that the committee is moving into the 21st century, using technology to achieve sponsors and track data for this year’s and future events. She asked if each member could please respond via email with two names of potential sponsor companies. The email is: lancrotarybasketball@gmail.com
McCaskey Mentorship
Rich Wolman announced there will be a committee meeting September 11th at 11am at the Farm & Home Center. Orientation will be the following week on September 18th in the conference room at the Farm & Home Center.
