2020-21 District Governor John G. Anthony II
John was encouraged to join rotary by a very special and long time member of the Longwood Rotary Club, Ethel Ann Murphy, his Mom.
Born in Philadelphia, John grew up in northern Delaware and Southern Chester County. Having met his wife while attending Shippensburg University, and having lived in Norristown for the first 2 years of their marriage, John and Karen moved to Karen's hometown of Mechanicsburg, PA where they continue reside.
John has been in the mortgage lending industry for most of his career. In his current role as manager at Fairway Independent Mortgage, he leads a team of over 20 professionals in multiple offices across the region.
In addition to being an active member since 2007 and having served as President of the Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg North in 2017/18, John has been involved in leadership in a number of organizations throughout the years. He served as President of The Pennsylvania Association of Mortgage Brokers from whom he was awarded Broker of the Year in 2003, as President of The Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce, as President of The Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership, as a Director of the Mechanicsburg Area School District Board of Directors, as a Board Member of Leadership Cumberland, in the leadership line for Eureka West Shore Masonic Lodge, Leadership involvement in the Boy Scouts New Birth of Freedom (He was awarded his Eagle Scout with a Bronze Palm in 1978) and currently serves as a Councilman on the Mechanicsburg Borough Council.
John has been a long-time volunteer for Junior Achievement, serves on the Mechanicsburg Area Foundation and has created and taught classes for the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and PA Department of Banking.
John and Karen who have been married for over 30 years, have two children, Jonathan and Maggie who are both pursuing their respective post graduate dreams.
Every year our Club funds projects that improve the lives of people both locally and globally. We raise and give away about $30,000 annually to:
Provide Summer Youth Experiences for Lancaster students
Make Presidential Grants to local nonprofits like UDS
Equip medical and dental clinics and schools in Honduras
Wipe out polio worldwide
In past years the Wheels and Wings Festival and the Tip-Off Tourney generated the funds for these projects. They’re not happening in 2020. Let’s make sure the good our Club does for Lancaster doesn’t take a year off too.
During the month of October, we ask you to make a special gift to the Rotary Club of Lancaster Foundation. If your situation permits, please consider a donation of at least $105 (our Club’s age). You could give the $406 you’ve saved on weekly lunches since March or whatever amount you would have contributed to Wheels and Wings and the Basketball Extravaganza this year. Our goal is $20,000.

Rotary Global Grants Scholarship – District 7390 – 2020/2021 Rotary year
Rotary Global Grants Scholarships fund an awardee’s first year of graduate study abroad in one of Rotary’s six Areas of Focus (listed below). Candidates must live in or attend college in District 7390, which encompasses Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties in Pennsylvania.
Scholarship highlights…
Plan to pursue career in one of Rotary’s Areas of Focus (listed below).
Award is for first year only of graduate studies abroad
District 7390 will not fund any applicant’s study which is for the second or later year of a multi-year graduate study program abroad.
Minimum study budget of $30,000 per year. Award capped at $30,000.
Must be proficient in language of host country.

The deadline to apply for a Global Grant Scholarship is January 10, 2021. The interviews will be held February 13, 2021 and applicants MUST be available for the interviews on that date.

PP Andy Fletcher is pleased that he is blessed to be able to donate to $500 to the RCL Fundraising and purchase 25 Car Wash Tickets ($225) after not missing one day. Andy was in the office everyday and kept every employee safe. Lancaster Electric Inc. only had one positive with no symptoms out of over 85 employees.
All Rotarians – especially committee chairs – are encouraged to help keep our new Club Calendar full and updated with the great things that our Club is doing in the community.
