Lloyd Smucker wants to reignite the American Dream. He believes this can be achieved by working to increase economic opportunity for everyone, reining in Washington’s out-of-control spending, and providing regulatory relief to small businesses so they can expand and create jobs.
Prior to being elected to Congress, Rep. Smucker owned and operated the Smucker Company for 25 years, and grew the small business to eventually employ more than 150 people.
He served two terms in the Pennsylvania State Senate where he chaired the Committee on Education. In that capacity, he pioneered reforms to increase accountability in education spending and worked to ensure Pennsylvania students had access to quality education. Rep. Smucker led the charge to hold elected officials accountable by proposing reforms to the ethics guidelines. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, he made it a priority to rein in spending, and built a reputation as an independent-minded conservative who seeks creative solutions to complex problems.
Lancaster Online has praised Rep. Smucker's accessibility, and notes that he has “a reputation as a fierce advocate” for his constituents.
Rep. Smucker serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure and Education and the Workforce committees.
He lives in West Lampeter Township with his wife, Cindy, and three children.

Tip Off Tournament
Terry Radcliffe reminded the Club that this year’s event will be held November 15th through 17th.
He also told the Club that the Committee needs help from all Rotarians to help stuff tickets and address envelopes on Wednesdays, October 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd at 10am in the back of the room at the Farm and Home center. Just show up to help.
RCL Golf Tourney Cancelled
Due to a lack of participants, the 2019 RCL Golf Tourney is cancelled. Perhaps an event in the Spring? Friday morning/afternoon? Another course?
Rotary Rendezvous October 9th
There will be a demonstration of Bocce at the courts near the Stoner Grill. Meet at 5pm at Stoner Grille and someone will be there to lead to the Bocce Courts. After the Bocce lesson and game, we will return to Stoner Grill for drinks and dinner for those who choose to stay.
McCaskey Mentor Committee Rich Wolman
First mentoring session next Wednesday at McCaskey East at 10AM. The security clearance process has been reassessed and will be much simpler. If you are in a room with a teacher, you do net need to have a clearance.
James H. Deily, Jr. Memorial Resolution
A Memorial Resolution for Rotarian Jim Deily was presented by Bill Jefferson. Jim passed away August 13th at the age of 99. Bill told few stories about Jim and how we was a consummate gentleman. He was known to always where a jacket for dinner. In fact, Jim wore one at the home every dinner up until his passing.

A concern by Rob Gallagher that his property in Christiana has been invaded by the Spotted Lantern Fly. Rob welcomes any questions and offers assistance in combating this interloper.
Tom Baum reports that the Pirates visited the White House and was relieved that Wally Otto passed the security clearance.
We must report that Joseph “Gabby” Hartmann, age 94 and one of Columbia's local legends passed away on Saturday, October 5th, 2019.
Although not a Rotarian, Gabby always kept us abreast of happenings in the County.
