Peter Hughes received his degree from Washington State University in natural resources science and in biology. Peter’s spouse, Molly Hughes is the other owner. Molly Hughes graduated from the University of Idaho with a master’s degree in civil engineering, she is a Professional Engineer.
Red Barn originally started doing agricultural permitting and conservation planning for Pennsylvania farmers. We quickly noticed the demand for engineering work was growing in the need for civil design, storm-water planning, and structural design, so in 2002, Molly Hughes took the exam to become a professional engineer.
Peter and Molly took over the business and expanded the Lancaster office. We are now in our fourth office location due to growth and are up to 17 employees.
We have always believed that farmers are the first environmentalists since they work hard to protect the soil and water resources and are stewards of their own land.
Red Barn was designed to assist the agricultural community through the permit process, which can be extensive.
There are many state and federal environmental regulations that a farmer must comply with. Pennsylvania has some of the most robust clean-stream laws in the nation because of its proximity to the Chesapeake Bay. We have a permitting section and an engineering section that work closely with the farmers to make sure they have the proper plans to stay in environmental compliance.”

2018 Crab Fest
This year’s Crab Fest will be local, being held at Rohrer’s Meadow Lane Farm at 6:00pm on September 20th. The cost is $60 per person and includes beer & wine. For those of you that are not crabby, there will be “picnic food” available. Sign-up has begun, so look for the sign-up sheet at the next meeting.
Rotary Golf Outing
The Rotary Golf Outing is September 27 at Overlook Golf Club. Greens fees, cart and dinner for $70. Can’t go wrong with this Fellowship Event!
