“Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Review,”Russell C. Redding, PA Department of Agriculture Secretary
Governor Tom Wolf nominated Russell C. Redding to serve as the 26th Secretary of Agriculture for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in January 2015, and was confirmed by the Senate on May 14, 2015. Redding is the former dean of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at Delaware Valley College.
Redding has extensive experience as a public servant, having spent more than 20 years serving Pennsylvania in Harrisburg and Washington D.C. He worked on Capitol Hill as Ag Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator Harris Wofford and served for 16 years in the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, serving as secretary from 2009-2011 under Governor Rendell.
He is a graduate of Penn State, having earned his B.S. in Agriculture Education and M.S. in Agriculture and Extension Education. In addition, he is a graduate of the Agribusiness Executive program.
A native of Pennsylvania, Redding has an innate understanding of production agriculture, stemming from his youth on his family’s dairy farm and his time as a dairy farm operator. He currently serves as Chair of the USDA Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture.
Russell, his wife Nina and sons Garrison and Elliot reside in the Gettysburg area, where the family is active in the community, their church and the local 4-H Club.

President Jeremy DeBord reminded members that next week's meeting will take place offsite at the Rohrer family farm near Millersville. Thank you to Joyce Rohrer for her hospitality in hosting members for a very pleasant and informative annual club meeting at their beautiful dairy farm. Executive Administrator Kathy Hainey emailed members directions.
New Members Inducted
Scott Owens addressed the club on behalf of the membership committee, to introduce three new members joining the Lancaster Rotary club today.
Member Steve Knaub introduced new member Amy Lewis.
Scott introduced Harry Jeffries, who has been a member and Past President of 2 other Rotary clubs.
Rich Wolman introduced new member Shelly Cohen Hershey, who was a past member of Lancaster years ago.
The club gave an enthusiastic welcome to the new members and Scott urged them to remember the ABC's- Attend, Be active, and Commit to the 4 way test.
Rotary Rendezvous
Tom Baum addressed the club regarding the next Rotary Rendezvous, planned for August 14 at Stoner Barn. The Susquehanna chapter of the Team River Runner organization will join us to tell about their wonderful mission with disabled veterans, providing physical activities and opportunities for engagement. Members and guests should plan to arrive between 5 and 5:30pm, with the presentation to begin at 5:45pm. Dinner will begin at 6:30for any who wish to stay.
As a reminder, the August 7th meeting of Rotary Club of Lancaster will be held at Glenn and Joyce Rohrer's farm, 3392 Blue Rock Road, Lancaster, PA. I have included directions to the farm. Once you enter the lane, follow the signs to the pond area, you will see the fountain from the road. Park in the field. See below.
