Dr. Stephanie Onguka – One Life Africa
Dr. Stephanie Onguka and her husband Andrew moved to Lancaster in 2007 to join the Family Medicine residency program at LGH. Andrew worked as a chaplain providing drug and alcohol counseling at Water Street Ministries. After completing training, they moved to Kenya in 2011 and launched One Life Africa, a scholarship and mentoring program for bright but needy students from slums and villages. The program has evolved to now offer a residential gap-year program for pre-university students and employability skills training for OLA graduates who are now in university. They reside at Kabarak University, 3 hours west of Nairobi, Kenya where Dr. Onguka is on faculty of a Family Medicine residency program. They have three young boys, ages 3-7. Dr. Onguka travels back to Lancaster a couple times of year to continue clinical practice at LGH.
Eileen Sosa - Outreach Paraguay
Soon after graduating from college, I left Lancaster, PA and began a life-altering adventure as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I was sent to a small town located in a remote area of Paraguay. Not surprisingly, I discovered a place with tremendous need and a people with unsurpassed generosity. By the end of my Peace Corps assignment, I had accomplished some of my goals, but what I received from the people of Paraguay far exceeded my expectations. Without a doubt they taught me more than I could ever give them. I am now married to a Paraguayan and we have three sons. My family has traveled to Paraguay many times and each time we returned home with many stories of good times but also with a bit of a heavy heart. We always felt that there must be some way that we can help to improve the lives of a people we love so dearly, if only in a small way. And so was born Outreach Paraguay...
Eileen Sosa is a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is currently employed at PENN Medicine/Lancaster General Health Care Connections. Care Connections is a community care team providing an innovative, intensive, and temporary primary care medical home for high-risk patients. Eileen also worked for years in urban clinics providing care to underinsured or uninsured high-risk patients.
Milner Sosa is a middle school and high school teacher in York, Pennsylvania. He teaches Spanish and coach's soccer. Milner’s native country is Paraguay.
Eileen and Milner live in Columbia, Pennsylvania. They have three sons, David, Daniel, and Christopher, all involved and committed to Outreach PARAGUAY activities.
Outreach PARAGUAY Directors and Staff work in collaboration with the Paraguayan Ministry of Health, local community members, educators, and health care professionals when developing and implementing meaningful and sustainable projects.
Project activities focus on:
• improving the health and well-being of rural communities
• providing participants with an opportunity to learn about the delivery of healthcare throughout Paraguay
• providing participants with a glimpse of the life, land, and culture of Paraguay

Treasurer Stepping Down
Pres. Althea informed us that Brian Wassell is working to transition out of the role of club treasurer which he has performed the past 16 years! The board and all Rotarians thank Brian for his dedicated service to the club. Tom Baum will be our new treasurer. I’m agreed to take on the role which will extend the 11 years that he is already been serving on the board. Thank you, Tom!
Wheels and Wings Festival & 5K – Just TWO Meetings Until Event!
Russ Harlan stated that we are just 3 meetings out from our Wheels and Wings/5K Fundraiser on June 22. More volunteers are needed, as only 15 have signed up so far. Anyone who can spare an hour or more throughout the day is greatly needed and appreciated. Also, more and larger ticket item giveaways are needed.
To date, $20,120.00 has been raised in sponsorships and more pledges are needed to surpass last year’s total. Please consider making a pledge in the coming week. Thank you!
Rotary Youth Exchange - Looking for Host Families!
The Club is hosting a student for the 2019-20 school year; he is an outstanding 15-year-old young man from Mexico who will arrive in August and return home the following June.
This young man enjoys movies, video games, music, skateboarding, soccer, volleyball, tennis, Taekwondo, robotics and computers. He would also like to explore acting. He lives with his parents and older brother. He has studied English for 11 years and considers himself fairly fluent in English. He has no health concerns.
We MUST find three host families for this young man; each family will host for about three and a half months. He will attend McCaskey High School. If you or anyone you know outside of Rotary is interested in this extremely rewarding experience or would like more info, please contact the committee chairs, Lisa Lewis (daytonduo@aol.com) or Jenn DeWalt (jdewalt@murrayins.com).
Strawberry Roundup 2019
The top bid of $500 was made by Harold Keller’s son, Tim, on behalf of his father. Great to see that.
Ottos, Gemmills and Kirchners bid (very well for the 4Hers) on a package that included strawberries, strawberry pie and dinner at the Loft. This qualifies as a mini VIPer event.
Rotary Rendezvous
The next Rotary Rendezvous will be held on June 12 at Stoner Grill. The presentation will be given by the Emerald Foundation. On June 26, the High Center for Family Business will be making the presentation.

Steve Stockwell welcomed his first grandson, Nathan Christopher, last Saturday. His parents Chris and Abby Stockwell and the grandparents are all ecstatic!
