"Rotarians In Action"
Hear how our Committees are focused on Service Above Self
Service comes in many forms. Just as we honor our veterans for military service to our country every Veterans Day, we honor our Rotary commitment to carry the torch of humanitarian service to our community and the world. Service is what defines Rotary. Next week (Nov. 16) we hear reports from the committees that actually carry out the work of the club and of Rotary. This is what it is all about.
The Board has decided to focus every other week’s luncheon meeting on lively discussions and Q&A’s on committee goals, programs, and challenges. These meetings are designed to keep us centered on service without detracting from our high-quality guest speaker programs on the alternate Wednesdays. Both meeting formats are stimulating and enjoyable, but we need all Rotarians to participate.
It is truly rewarding to hear about the many great things the club does in our community. You will not only learn what is happening, but you will discover how you can be a part of our Rotary projects – and offer suggestions.
The program opened with Aaron Sherman, the Lancaster Public Library (LPL) Board Chair, giving an overview of the Lancaster Library. The mission of LPL is to “Inspire, Empower, and Strengthen the Community by Connecting People with Information, Ideas, and Enriching Experiences.” LPL has over 58,000 cardholders of all ages and 192,000 items in their collection.. LPL generates 63% of its budget through fundraising, finds, and fees. Since LPL gets very little government funding, it partners with other community organization to serve the Lancaster community more efficiently.
Lissa Holland, the LPL Executive Director, brought us up to date on the new Ewell Plaza library. It will be in the heart of Lancaster City, and only a block from the old library. It will be a modern facility with lots of glass. It will have a large children’s department, but will also be equipped to serve the conferencing needs of local businesses and other organizations. Fundraising started in 2020. Construction began in 2022. The Ewell Plaza Library is expected to open next spring. The Capital Campaign is raising $10 million.
The Farm & Home Center is in the process of selecting a preferred caterer. Also RCoL is negotiating for a flat fee for use of the Farm & Home Center. The results of these two activities will impact our choice of a caterer and venue.

Announcements
Dues Invoices are out
The Dues Invoices included an increase to $101 quarterly, $202 semi-annually or $404 annually. They may be paid by credit card at meetings. Or they can be made payable and mailed to: Rotary Club of Lancaster; P.O. Box 1387, Lancaster, PA 17608. There are also options to pre-pay for lunch fees. They are for 13 weeks, 26 weeks, or 52 weeks at $16 per week. Any meeting paid and not attended will be donated to the Club. There will be no refunds for this service.

Secret Angel Project
At Wednesday's club meeting, it was announced that we will be participating in the Secret Angel project with Reynolds Middle School. They have provided us with 37 students who have an increased need this year. Rotarians who were at the meeting had the opportunity to select a child today. Thank you to those who assisted with selecting 25 of those 37 children!
We have 12 children still available, all in grades 6-8. We have 8 girls and 4 boys left. If you wish to select a child, please reach out to me!
They recommend that we spend $50 per child. All gifts are to be unwrapped, in a gift bag. I will provide a number for you to note on the bag so that we can ensure it gets to the correct child.
Please bring all gifts with you to the 12/7 meeting so that we can get them to the school in time!

Salvation Army Bell Ringing - Fri. & Sat., Dec. 16th & 17th
A second opportunity to serve this holiday season is with our annual Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army.
We are signed up for both Friday, December 16th and Saturday, December 17th. Please add your preferred time in the sheet Crystal sent out.

Concern: Dave Hosler will start treatment for prostate cancer next week. We all wish you a speedy recovery.
