The Conestoga, Lancaster's Historic Waterway
Donald Kautz is a Web Developer, Amateur Photographer, and History Buff. Don recently published a book entitled “The Conestoga River: A History”.
A native Lancastrian, Don is eager to promote the concept that the Conestoga is “our river”.
This presentation takes a brief stroll through the history along the Conestoga River. We will consider the historic conditions along the Conestoga, and we will look at the effects that settlement of the county has had on the river and what steps can be taken to ensure that the generations to come are able to enjoy this natural beauty.
Donald Kautz is a Lancaster native, landscape photographer and Lancaster County history blogger. Kautz has expanded his work from landscape to include brightly colored artistic floral photography. In the exhibit, Conestoga Pastoral, Kautz displays from his collection of photos about the Conestoga River. He started photography at a young age but increased his focus on photography in the last few years.
Author and photographer, Don Shenk, continues to love the beauty of Lancaster County, which is the theme in most of his photographs and books. Shenk has been a photographer for over 50 years including time as a freelance photographer for LNP.
Lancaster Rotarians have been volunteering for Power Packs for children in the School District of Lancaster (Washington Elementary and Reynolds Middle School) for years. The last couple of years we have been very short on volunteers.
COVID has changed the role of a volunteer and reduced time commitments.
In this environment, we are looking for volunteers to pick up boxes of food at the Power Packs warehouse and deliver to Washington and Reynolds on Wednesdays at 10:30AM. The whole pick up and delivery takes about an hour and you can definitely make the Rotary meeting afterwards. Mid-size or larger SUVs and vans would be ideal, but if we can assemble some two vehicle teams we can split the loads. There is a physical aspect to loading and unloading the boxes, but if needed we can get help from the warehouse and schools.
Volunteers do not have to commit to every week. The coordinator sends an email the month prior asking for availability of volunteer and creates a schedule accordingly.
Please consider serving in this worthwhile program.

They are soft, two-ply polyester masks with a structured shape and adjustable ear loops for better fit. Each mask comes individually packaged in a poly bag. Special October 27 Rotary Rendezvous
Rotary Rendezvous will be meeting on Wednesday October 27, 2021 at MORR Range. Morr Range will be providing certified instruction for those who are not as familiar with shooting guns and a refresher course for those who are. After the instruction class, we will have the ability to practice shooting at the indoor range. Following, we will be gathering at Mick's All-American Pub (across the street) at 7:15 for dinner. For those would like to attend RR but not shoot, you are welcome to just attend dinner. We have a limited amount of availability at MORR Range, so all are strongly encouraged to RSVP by following the link below, reaching out to a committee member, Tom Baum, or Kaitlyn Blosser. Community Service Star Awards
Lancaster Rotary has honored those in our community who have dedicated their lives to community service through our annual Community Service award, as well as three students from the Lancaster City high schools that have done the same. This year, in addition to those awards, we are expanding our reach with a different kind of awardee--an every day hero.
Each month, Lancaster Rotary will honor service stars in our community--ordinary people in our Lancaster community who are going above and beyond every day in their work. The past year and a half has been difficult for so many people in Lancaster and we hope to honor those who have been shining brightest--a nurse who helped you get your vaccine, a neighbor who has delivered food for those in need, a grocery store cashier who makes your smile every time you visit. Awardees will receive a gift card and recognition from Rotary of their contribution to our community.
Rotary Fellowship Ski Trip to Banff & Lake Louise, Canada
The International Skiing Fellowship of Rotarians is running a ski trip for ISFR members, but you can join ISFR for $35 if you aren't a member. The ISFR package is for Feb. 26 to Mar. 25, 2022. It includes welcome reception, daily breakfast, general meeting, gala banquet, and photo. It costs $350 before Nov. 30, 2021.
