2018-2019 Presidential Grants
President Althea presented the first Presidential Grant of her term giving $2,000 to the Lancaster Symphony. Stephen “Maestro” Gunzenhauser accepted the check and explained how it would be used to expose live music to 3rd to 5th graders through a program they provide.
Rotary Refugee Center Committee
The Committee invites you to be a coach for our Club's Rotary Citizenship Program, which helps refugees and immigrants prepare to take the test to become a US citizen. Interestingly, a person must have lived m this country for five (5) years before she or he becomes a candidate to take this test. Each coaching session is one-on-one and lasts an hour. This is a partnership between IU13 Community Education, The Rotary Club of Lancaster and the Refugee Center & Community School at Reynolds.
Here's what you need to know:
- Coach's training takes place in this room (Farm & Home Center) from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 17th.
- Coaches review flash cards of the 200 questions about the US Constitution and the like, some of which the candidate will be asked by a government official during the citizenship test .
- Coaches also help the candidate practice his or her English for example, by asking the candidate to tell you about themselves
Coaching sessions occur with the refugees on six (6) consecutive Wednesdays:
April 24
th, May 1
st, 8
th, 15
th, 22
nd and 29
th.
Each coaching session runs from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Each coach will do only one session a night.
The sessions will be held at the Lancaster Public Library on North Duke Street.
Seven Club members are needed for one-on-one coaching sessions each night, so over the six Wednesdays there are 42 one-on-one interview sessions that need coaches.
Rotary Refugee Center Committee members Kevin Allen and Jon Walker are the Project Leads. One of us will be there each night to help things run smoothly.

The Rotary Club of Lancaster Penn Square and the Eastern Tier RMB Steering Committee will host the 49th RMB networking event in District 7390's RMB history and the third event of the 2019 season at the Groff Event Center, 234 West Orange Street, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, March 20. The event cost will be FREE thanks to Groff Funeral Home and Crematory Services which is providing the venue and possibly other sponsors to be determined.
