The public-school systems have many issues that they have been asked to address. Among them are mental health of the students, adequately funding services, and more recently the addressing issues around gender identity.
The Penn Manor School System was an early adopter of screening for mental health issues and providing access to supportive services. They have recently adapted their new high school architectural plans to support gender identity challenges. The Eastern Lancaster County School District has been thrust into the spotlight on issues around gender identity.
Dr. Michael Leichliter Superintendent of the Penn Manor School District and Dr. Robert Hollinger Superintendent of the Eastern Lancaster County School District will address the Current issues of Mental Health, Funding, & Gender Identity.
Mike Leichliter (mike.leichliter@pennmanor.net) was named Superintendent of Schools for the Penn Manor School District July 1, 2009. He joined the Penn Manor staff in August 1997 as an assistant principal at Penn Manor High School. He served as principal at Manor Middle School from 2000 until July 2006, when he assumed the position of Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Planning. He was a social studies teacher for the York City School District from 1991-1997. Dr. Leichliter earned his bachelor’s degree from Grove City College, a master’s in School Administration from Western Maryland College and his doctorate from Widener University. Dr. Hollister was born in Lancaster County and raised near the village of Silver Springs. Following high school graduation from Lancaster Catholic High School, he remained in the County and attended Millersville University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in the field of Industrial Technology and received the Department’s Philadelphia Alumni Award for a graduating Senior.
Dr. Hollister earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Villanova University and his Principal’s Certification from Lehigh University. He earned his Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Lehigh University in 2003. His research analyzed a large sample of schools in Pennsylvania assessing the need for and promise of mass customized learning practices in the public school sector. The title of his research: Organizational Operating Dimensions for Agile Schools of the Next Generation: An Agile Performance Inventory of Pennsylvania Schools demonstrated the organizational possibilities of agile mass customized learning practices.
Dr. Hollister was contracted as the Assistant Superintendent at Eastern Lancaster County School District in October of 2005 and was appointed Superintendent in June 2008. He is presently serving in his third five-year contract for the District and is the longest serving Superintendent of all 22 districts in the Lancaster Lebanon Intermediate Unit (IU 13).
Dr. Hollister is a husband and a father of two young ladies who currently attend public schools.

Tip Off Tournament
Terry Radcliffe reminded the Clun that this year’s event will be held November 15th through 17th. As you know, members are given ten (10) tickets to sell, donate the $60 & return the tickets (Adults $6 – Child $3) or just return the tickets. A letter will be sent to the membership with more information.
He also told the Club that the Committee needs help from all Rotarians to help stuff tickets and address envelopes on Wednesdays, October 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd at 10am in the back of the room at the Farm and Home center.

RCL Golf is now scheduled for Thursday October 10th at Overlook. Please signup, its only $65 for golf, cart and dinner and beer. Tee times start at 12:15. Non-Rotarians are welcome.

Tom Baum reports that the Pirates visited the White House and was relieved that Wally Otto passed the security clearance.
We must report that Joseph “Gabby” Hartmann, age 94 and one of Columbia's local legends passed away on Saturday, October 5th, 2019.
Although not a Rotarian, Gabby always kept us abreast of happenings in the County.
