Secret Angel Program of RCOL Refugee Center
As many of you learned last week, the Refugee Center Committee is involved with Reynolds Middle School’s Secret Angel Program in Lancaster City. This program helps students that:
- 89% of Reynolds students are classified as living below the Federal poverty level
- They must deal with all the trials that inner city students face daily
- Many live in homeless shelters or shelters for victims of domestic abuse
- Most reside in one parent homes
- Some are refugees
The result: Most Reynolds students will not experience the joy of the holidays that our own children or grandchildren enjoy. This year, the Refugee Center Committee set a goal of filling 50 Secret Angel holiday gift bags for the 50 refugee children attending Reynolds. For many, this bag will be the only present they will receive during the holiday season.
So, we need your help to bring big smiles to 50 young faces!
Heartfelt thanks go to the 34 of you who have already committed to being a Secret Angel. For the 16 of you who are not yet Secret Angels but who would REALLY LIKE to become one, here’s what to do:
Pick up a small packet of information from Dave Foulk or another Committee Member at the back of the room immediately following the meeting.
The packet will include a shopping list for an anonymous refugee child which includes a uniform shirt, hygiene kit and toy (i.e., the child’s choice of jewelry, board game, sports ball or book).
Fill a non-religious holiday gift bag with $35 to $45 worth of items and return it to the Secret Angel Program table at the club before December 12th.
Then imagine how happy you will make one child!
Remember: Wednesday, December 12th is the deadline for returning the filled bag!

Rotary Means Business
The next Rotary Means Business event will be held December 12, 2018 at EZ Marketing, 111 Centerville Road, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The event is Free. Please register online or at the table in the back of the room.
Car Wash Tickets
The car wash committee will be selling tickets in the back of the room from now until Dec 12th.
Basic Exterior Express tickets are $8 ea. Full Service Int/Ext tickets are $19.00 ea.
We take check, cash or credit card.
Rotary F&M Basketball Extravaganza
Jim Shenk thanked the 60 volunteers for helping at the Basketball Extravaganza over the past weekend. PP Dave Hosler also involved volunteers from the F&M Rotaract Club. Over the next couple weeks, updates will follow on the income from the event, and the follow up auction will take place at the club, so bring cash and checks.
Rotary Rendezvous
Next Rendezvous meeting is November 28th at Stoner Grill at 5:30pm. It will feature Christina Hartman speaking on running for Congress and about encouraging other women to run for office.
Hess’s Helpers
Pres. Althea thanked Hess’s Catering and Hess’s Helpers for all their great work over the past year. Great job!
New Rotary Role Announced
Pres. Althea announced the new Club volunteer position of Club Facilitator will be performed by PP Bob McClenathan. The role of this newly created position will to facilitate Grant applications, both District and global, to assist the PP in maintaining Board succession, document Presidential Grant Awards for reference, recommend Foundation strategies, improve outreach and implementation of bequests and legacy giving, and conduct community outreach and recruiting efforts. Board updates will be provided quarterly.
