John joined the Rotary Club of Hershey in 1993 and served on the Club’s Board from 2006 to 20011. During that time, he rotated through each of the club offices and served as President in 2009-10. At the District level, John served on the Group Study Vocational Exchange Committee from 2009 to 2017 and has been a host family for several of the exchanges during his years in Rotary. He chaired the 2013, 2014 and 2015 District Conferences. He has been on the District Grant Committee and served as chair in 2017-18. John is a faculty member for the Rotary Leadership Institute.
In his professional life, John was a science teacher for 4 years before going back to school and entering the health care field. He was employed at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for over 40 years and held several senior administrative positions. He retired in 2017 as the Medical Center’s Chief Compliance Officer. John is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the University of Central Florida.
John has two sons. Justin is married and he and his wife and daughter live in Hershey. His other son, Jaren, lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife and daughter.
Outside of Rotary, John has been involved with the United Way of the Capital Region since 1999 and chairs one of the allocation panels and is on the Basic Needs Focus Care Council. He also served nine years of the Board of the Cornwall Manor Retirement Community in Cornwall, Pa and served as the Board chair for 2 years. He was also active in Boy Scouts.

Holiday 2018 Secret Angel Program of the Rotary Club of Lancaster’s
Refugee Center Committee
Our Club’s Refugee Center Committee has goal of filling Secret Angel holiday gift bags for the 50 refugee children attending Reynolds Middle School. For many, this bag will be the only present they will receive during the holiday season.
We need your help to bring big smiles to 50 young faces! Here’s what to do:
Take home a shopping list, which includes a uniform shirt, hygiene kit and toy (i.e., jewelry, board game, sports ball or book). Fill a non-religious holiday gift bag with $35 to $40 worth of items and return it to the Secret Angel Program table at the club.
Imagine how happy you will make one child!
Wednesday, December 12th is the deadline for returning the filled bag to the Club.

The Common Wheel
Adriana Atencio presented to the Club the programs The Common Wheel has in place.
Adriana began as a Board Member of The Common Wheel, and has quickly transitioned into her role as Director of Outreach and Resources. She serves on the Board of Clare House Lancaster, and is involved in many ways throughout the Lancaster community. She loves cooking, all things Harry Potter, traveling, and hanging out with her kid and cats. Her favorite memory on a bike is when she rode through a meadow in Poland, attempting to trace the border of the country when it was divided between two “friendly neighbors”. She is excited to continue to further the mission of The Common Wheel, and get more people riding bikes.
