Lancaster boasts a unique history and a long tradition of focus on culture and education. Our public library system is a vital, living part of that legacy. It also represents much more than the literal definition of “a building containing collections of books,” as we will hear in this week's special program. 

 

"The mission of Lancaster Public Library (LPL) is to inspire, empower, and strengthen our community by connecting people with information, ideas, and enriching experiences. By providing equitable access to vital educational resources, exceptional programming, and community building opportunities, LPL has become Lancaster County’s center for learning and information. Our two branches in Lancaster City and Mountville serve 14 municipalities and 260,000 people as their local public library. Each year over 350,000 visitors enter the Library, and nearly 700,000 items are circulated to patrons. LPL is the largest public library in Lancaster County.  With the largest, most in-depth collection, LPL’s materials also are circulated to the patrons of the 13 other independent public libraries in Lancaster County. Lancaster Public Library ensures everyone has free and equal access to information and lifelong learning opportunities regardless of who they are or their circumstances. The Library is a true microcosm of Lancaster City and County, and we embrace the diversity of patrons who walk through our doors."

 

Lissa Holland serves as Executive Director of LPL.  Lissa’s library career began in 2004 in the library of Good Shepherd Episcopal School in Dallas.  After moving back north, Lissa joined the Lancaster Public Library in 2008 where she embraced a number of roles. In 2018, Lissa was named Assistant Director of Lancaster Public Library before being named its Executive Director in March 2020, three days prior to the COVID shutdown.  Not only does Lissa oversee the day-to-day activities of the Library but also the capital campaign as well as the building project for the Library’s new home on North Queen Street.  Lissa earned a Masters of Library Information and Science in School Librarianship from the University of North Texas. She lives in Manheim Twp.
 
In addition to serving as President of the Board of Trustees of the Lancaster Public Library, Aaron Sherman is the President of Odyssey Group Wealth Advisors, working with individuals, families, and businesses to organize and plan their financial future. Before becoming a financial advisor, Aaron worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, coordinating reforms in derivatives markets with policymakers in the U.S. and around the world. His tenure included working at the European Central Bank. Aaron earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. He also holds a Certificate in Financial Planning from New York University’s School of Professional Studies. Aaron lives in Manheim Township.  

 

The Dues Invoices included an increase to $101 quarterly, $202 semi-annually or $404 annually.  They may be paid by credit card at meetings. Or they can be made payable and mailed to: Rotary Club of Lancaster; P.O. Box 1387, Lancaster, PA  17608.  There are also options to pre-pay for lunch fees.  They are for 13 weeks, 26 weeks, or 52 weeks at $16 per week.  Any meeting paid and not attended will be donated to the Club. There will be no refunds for this service.
