Michael is the new President of Tabor Community Services, Inc. Most recently he served as Chief Impact Officer at Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County (CAP), an anti-poverty organization where he has the privilege of supporting a number of high quality programs like Head Start, WIC, Navigation, and Domestic Violence Services. Under Michael’s leadership, CAP’s nearly two dozen programs restructured into four Impact Teams that align with the organization’s core competencies and the community’s needs: Education and Child Development, Household Stability, Health and Nutrition, and Safety and Empowerment. Michael is a leader in a countywide effort to create a “no wrong door” approach to social services through a shared database called Empower Lancaster. Previously Michael served as the Director of the WIC program at CAP. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Hunger Free Lancaster County, Lancaster Public Library, and Milagro House. Michael is passionate about reducing hunger and poverty, objectives he also worked on in previous roles with the Center for Community Service and Justice at Loyola University in Baltimore, Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, and the US Department of State. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree from Georgetown University. Michael and his wife and young daughter love calling Lititz home.

One of the areas most profoundly affected by the economic fallout from the pandemic is housing. Thousands of households are facing eviction, foreclosure, and many are also at risk of homelessness. At the same time low interest rates are also creating opportunities for first time homebuyers. Tabor/LHOP has been on the frontlines of the housing response, from expanding homeless outreach to leading the Eviction Prevention Network, and providing closing cost/down payment assistance for low to moderate income homebuyers. Tabor/LHOP and our partners are leveraging both public and private investment to meet these needs. Tabor/LHOP CEO Mike McKenna will share more about these efforts and the challenges still ahead for affordable housing in Lancaster County.
