Changing of the Guard

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

Hasn’t this been a different world the last several months.  But, as true Rotarians, we know we can persevere by caring for one another and living the Four Way Test.  Along with this different world has come a knowledge of new technology assisting us with keeping in touch with one another.

Beginning July 1, 2020, our weekly meetings (at least for a little while) will be on Zoom.  Kathy Hainley will be emailing you the Zoom meeting link, which would include the password and meeting ID number.  You may join the meeting at 12:00 Noon and the meeting will begin promptly at 12:15 PM.  Be sure to download the Zoom app on your computer or IPad.

As the incoming President of our Club, my goal is to keep everyone engaged.  Hopefully, within a small amount of time, we will be able to hold meetings and enjoy the camaraderie that we have been missing.

I’m reminded of a few words spoken at a recent DG Zoom Meeting, “We were built for this”.  Yes, we were.

Yours in Rotary,

Ben Bamford
President
Rotary Club of Lancaster

World Community Service Committee
The World Community Service (WCS) Committee is pleased and grateful for the successful completion of its project to assist the Central American Relief Effort (CARE) in shipping nearly 1,000 school desk-chair combos and other classroom furniture to rural Honduras. This was clearly thanks to the approval of supplemental funding by our RCL Board.
The project had been planned for several months. Our Club had initially agreed to contribute $6,000 toward the costs of shipping four 40-ft. shipping containers with furniture provided by Penn Manor from renovations at their campus.  However, CARE could no longer count on volunteers to help with removing and loading the furniture due to the pandemic.

The WCS committee, with the approval of our Board, was then able to commit an urgent, additional $3,200 for professional movers to handle the work.  That brought the total RCL contribution to $9,200--a significant contribution to benefit schoolchildren in an impoverished country. It also helps fulfill one of Rotary's six areas of international focus: basic education and literacy.

Malcolm MacDougall,
(WCS Co-chair, on behalf of Co-chair Rick Manix, our WCS Committee and CARE)

4H Strawberry Round-up
PP Tom Baum reports that $1,450 was raised this year for the 4H members and $650 were donated to the Max Smith Scholarship Fund.  This year’s event was held “virtually.”

Help Keep the Club Calendar Updated

All Rotarians – especially committee chairs – are encouraged to help keep our new Club Calendar full and updated with the great things that our Club is doing in the community.  Please submit any items you would like added to Kathy by e-mailing her at RotaryClubofLancaster@gmail.com.  Examples include the schedule of McCaskey Mentoring Sessions, Committee Meetings, Power Packs or Salvation Army Bell Ringing. If it’s happening, let’s get it on the Calendar for all to see!  Your help will keep us all updated with what’s going on within the Club AND will showcase our very active Club to the Lancaster Community and to prospective members.  The Club Calendar is available at www.LancasterRotary.org
