Supporting Healthy Communities: Penn State Health's Role in Lancaster

Dr. Mooney will will discuss Penn State Health and Lancaster Medical Center. She will cover Lancaster County population and health statistics. She will explain how Penn State Health is supporting the health and wellness needs in Lancaster and future health offerings and certifications.
Dr. Claire Mooney, DNP, MBA, RN, CCRN, NEA-BC, is the Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for Penn State Health- Lancaster Medical Center. Previously, she was the president and CEO of both Jennersville and Brandywine Hospitals – Tower Health. Over her 25- year healthcare career, Dr. Mooney has served in various positions including Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Senior Director of Nursing where she led the cardiac bundled payment initiative to improve patient care process and quality outcomes. Prior to her time at Tower Health, Dr. Mooney worked as Director of Nursing, Lancaster General Health, where she successfully led the fourth MAGNET re-designation, and received a $150,000 grant from the from the Pennsylvania Crime Coalition to combat the nationwide opioid crisis.
Dr. Mooney served as the Chair of Health Care Connect (HCC) the Industry Partner for the Chester County Economic Development Council. She assisted in securing a $250,000 grant from PA Smart Program to address challenges related to access to behavioral health facilities, training to meet current healthcare challenges, transportation access for workers and patients and sustainability of the HCC Partnership and works. She is active in the community, and previously served on several important community boards such as Chester County Economic Development, Kendal ~ Crosslands Communities, Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania, and the United Way of Lancaster.
In addition to her clinical and administrative achievements, she is also the founder of Nurse Worthy, LLC: specifically established to assist healthcare leaders with professional development. In November of 2019, she received state -wide recognition for her work from Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania for Nursing Administration -Executive. In 2021, she was named VISTA Leadership Mega Star and that same year was one of the Power Women of Main Line and Western Suburbs by Main Line Today.
Dr. Mooney earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Immaculata University, a Master of Business Administration from Alvernia University, and Master of Nursing in Leadership and Health Systems Management from Loyola University New Orleans. In May of 2018, she received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Loyola University New Orleans. She also holds several advanced certifications in Healthcare Finance, Board- Certification Advanced Nurse Executive and Critical Care. Dr. Mooney is an accomplished local and national presenter and has published on various healthcare related issues.
