Drumline Launches at Encina Preparatory High

Leveraging a series of grants and donations from Point West Rotary Club, San Juan Education Foundation, Carmichael Kiwanis and private donors, Encina Preparatory High School is now once again home to a drumline.

The Encina High Drumline is led by director Erron Smooth and is being offered as an after school activity for interested students. The grants and donations have enabled the group to purchase new drum equipment and supplies set to arrive soon.  “Most importantly, the donations will help provide the youth at Encina an opportunity to be a part of something greater than themselves,” shared Smooth. “They have a chance to work towards a common goal to be great together.”  Through their participation, students are learning valuable skills, including life lessons in the areas of respect, discipline, teamwork, responsibility, pride and leadership.

Launched on March 2, the drumline now consists of ten students, mainly eighth-graders, who practice after school twice a week. Currently, the group is in practice mode and hopes to begin performing by in the fall. The goal is to expand the drumline up to 25 students next year.
