On Monday, January 15th, six members of Point West Rotary donated their time to help build brand new bikes for deserving children in the community.  In addition, PWR donated $5,000 to support the project and help purchase the bikes.  Mike Garcia, Don Levin, Chris Taylor, Gary Pevey, Rich Price and Carl Naake worked with the North Natomas Transportation Management Association on their 50 Bikes for 50 Kids project.
This is a community service event held on Martin Luther King Jr Day each year that matches teams of volunteers with well-deserving kids to assemble 50 new quality bikes. Kids in 5th - 12th grades are nominated
by local organizations for demonstrating traits such as respect, responsibility and citizenship. After nominations are reviewed, 50 youth are selected to help build and receive a new bike during a highly energized daylong event.  The kids also receive bike locks, a helmet and instruction on bike safety.  The kids and volunteers experience firsthand the rewards of teamwork, volunteerism, and a sense of community.
