Palisades Federal Credit Union Bank Donates $5,000 Grant to Suffern Rotary Period Product Initiative
The Sloatsburg Food Pantry at All Souls Community Church opened its doors to the Suffern Rotary Club for its lunch meeting on Feb. 1st. Present was Anthony Kurdziel, CEO of the Palisades Federal Credit Union Bank, who presented a $5,000 grant check to the Suffern Rotary Club’s Period Product Initiative project. One of the Rotary members, Elizabeth Stevens, founder of our club’s fairly new community project, The Period Products Initiative, is raising funds to supply the Sloatsburg Food Pantry with period products. Elizabeth and her husband Kevin Stevens were successful in obtaining a grant from Palisades Federal Credit Union Bank to support this project.
Anthony Kurdziel, CEO of Palisades Federal Credit Union Bank and Ashley Cruz, VP of Operations at Palisades Credit Union Bank attended the meeting to formally donate the $5,000 check and to learn more about The Food Pantry. Susan Meyer, Board Chairperson & Founder of the Pantry and other pantry volunteers explained in the workings of the pantry; how food is obtained, the choices the staff make in purchasing products and why. They highlighted the various volunteer opportunities available at the Pantry to the Suffern Rotary Club whose principals are Service Above Self.
Elizabeth Stevens presented statistics and research findings that high-light issues and challenges that impact women & their families who do not have adequate supplies of period products. She reminded us that all females who menstruate require period products to fully participate in daily life, that the lack of menstrual health, proper hygiene, and adequate access to period products is an issue that impacts not just females, but entire families generationally and communities; with an aggregate loss of human potential to us all. The cost of the products have become very expensive and currently not covered by any public assistance programs. Women that need the support of the Food Pantry are extremely grateful when these products are made available to them at the pantry..
