JUSTIN NOBEL
This week, along with Kim Nobel, we welcome her brother, Justin.
Justin Nobel is an award-winning investigative science and environmental journalist, his groundbreaking 2020 Rolling Stone Magazine feature, "America's Radioactive Secret" reworked the landscape on oil and gas industry accountability by illuminating a secretive and complex harm threatening the environment, communities and the public, and the industry's own workers. Justin's 2024 book, "Petroleum-238: Big Oil's Dangerous Secret and the Grassroots Fight to Stop It" reveals that shielded by a system of lax regulations and legal loopholes, the oil and gas industry's radioactive waste has been spilled, spread, injected, dumped, and freely emitted across America. His book was to be published by Simon & Schuster, but after the storied publishing house was purchased by a notorious private equity firm that owned significant oil and gas assets and even their own fracking company Justin pulled the book and self-published, writing about that in Harper's Magazine. His unique style of journalism relies on a century of academic research, a trove of never-before released industry and government documents, extensive time with impacted residents and organizers in oil and gas communities, and perhaps most importantly, a group of courageous whistle-blowing oil and gas industry workers. They are suffering mysterious health maladies and dying from unexplainable cancers, and have at times risked their lives to reveal horrendous environmental crimes that affect us all. Justin writes for US magazines and investigative sites, his work has been published in Best American Science and Nature Writing and Best American Travel Writing, as well as law and scientific journals. He is presently working with Harvard's School of Public Health to assess oil and gas worker and community radiation exposures. A documentary film is being made about his reporting on oil and gas radioactivity issues across the United States. Justin lives in the Hudson Valley.

Grow your knowledge, skills and leadership to help our community respond to the climate crisis and build community resilience!
The RESTORE Leadership Academy is a free two-day immersion program for anyone wanting to take more informed action and leadership on climate change. Hosted by Sustainable Hudson Valley staff and brought to you by Rotary, the program consists of six 90-minute sessions over two Saturdays, culminating in a hands-on project at each of four currently planned locations (other locations coming in Fall 2026).

The monthly Parkinson’s Support Group is a gathering place for those with Parkinson’s and their loved ones to create community and share information. The group will meet each month to offer a space for everyone to discuss their challenges and successes, share stories, connect with others who are navigating similar issues, and sift through medical information and the latest news about available treatments.
