ROTARIAN INOCULATES CHILDREN AGAINST POLIO Rotarian Bob Phillips, at a regularly‐scheduled meeting of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club on Monday, January 11 th , recounted his trip to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa, where he was part of an international team of Rotarians dedicated to inoculating local children against polio. Mr. Phillips, a Wells Fargo financial advisor, helped administer an oral vaccine to nearly 200 children under five years of age last December in the West African region. Thanks to the work of Rotary International, and teams such as the one Mr. Phillips was a part of, polio has largely been eliminated in the world, with the exception of several war‐torn nations in the Middle East. Mr. Phillips also attended the West Africa Project Fair during his team’s mission where he became acquainted with local traditions and met with area officials. Mr. Phillips informed Rotarians that Cote d’Ivoire, a former French colony, has a population of nearly 24 million people and is primarily an agricultural country, exporting mainly cocoa and coffee. Rotary is a local, national, and international service organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of others through a variety of service projects. The Rhinebeck Rotary Club hosted its inaugural Service Above Self Awards Dinner & Recognition Ceremony on May 14, 2012 at the historic Beekman Arms. The event honored distinguished community citizens and exemplary business neighbors, as well as outstanding members of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club who epitomize Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self. The ceremonial installation of the 2012-13 Rotary Club officers also took place at the dinner.

On Monday, December 5, the Rhinebeck Rotary Club was pleased to host David Crenshaw and Lori Stella of the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie is a community-based, non-profit agency dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk children and their families in the Hudson River Region.
On Monday, November 28, the Rhinebeck Rotary Club was pleased to host Linda Cotter-Forbes, Rhinebeck Resident, who spoke about the Heart Safe Club of Rhinebeck (heartsafeclub.org). Her daughter Kaitlin’s life was saved by those who responded to Kaitlin’s Sudden Cardiac Arrest by administering CPR and using an AED ,thus the inspiration for Linda’s passionate work for Heart Safe Club.
On Monday, May 23, 2011, the Rhinebeck Rotary Club was pleased to recognize J. Louis Turpin and Julie Turpin as Citizens of the Year, Rhinebeck Savings Bank as Business of the Year, Rhinebeck High School Seniors Gwenn Gideon and Anna Katomski as the 2011 Rotary Scholarship recipients and Paul Harris Fellows H. Knick Staley, David Crenshaw, Michael Spitzer and J. Louis Turpin.
The event was held at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, where the Rhinebeck Rotary Club meets every Monday at 12:15pm. Approximately 125 people were in attendance and the Installation of new Officers also took place that evening.

This past Monday the Rhinebeck Rotary Club hosted Mary Linge, Director of Home Ownershiip and Education at Hudson River Housing, Inc. at its weekly luncheon. Hudson River Housing is dedicated to eliminating the devastating consequences of homelessness and ensuring that decent, affordable housing is available to all people throughout Dutchess County.
On Monday, July 23, 2012 the Rhinebeck Rotary Club was pleased to host members of the Rhinebeck High School Crew Team Rhinebeck Crew members gave a brief video presentation on the 2012 workings of Rhinebeck Crew.
The location of the Morton Memorial Library is 82 Kelly Street, Rhinecliff. If you are driving into Rhinecliff from Rhinebeck, when you arrive at the stop sign at which you would have turned right to drive down toward The Rhinecliff, instead go straight ahead through the triangle intersection and the library is on your left.

Rhinebeck Rotary will meet at Morton Library on March 12th
At a recent Rhinebeck Rotary Club meeting, Shelter Box Ambassador for Rotary International District 7210 and former Rhinebeck Rotary President, J. Louis Turpin, presented the Rhinebeck Rotary Club with the first ever ShelterBox Hero Award for their five-year commitment to annual sponsorship of a ShelterBox. This represents part of Rhinebeck Rotary’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian service both locally and worldwide.
Tansukh Dorawala spoke recently at a luncheon meeting of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck. As District Governor, he oversees more than 60 clubs in the Hudson Valley. Here Rhinebeck Rotary President Gary McDonald (at right) presents Tansukh with a banner from the Rhinebeck Club, thanking him for the support District 7210 has given to the Rhinebeck Rotary Club’s international program.
The Rhinebeck Rotary will be meeting at the Rhinecliff Hotel starting July18th. This change in venue is due to the renovations at the Beekman Arms. The club will meet at the Rhinecliff for the new few weeks and expect to be back at the Beekman Arms in mid August once renovations are complete. Come join us at the Rhinecliff and enjoy the food and beautiful views.

In November, the United Nations was host to a group of local students and their advisors for a special presentation of their very successful Nicaragua 2010 Project and Trip. The high school students belong to the Rhinebeck Interact Club, a service organization sponsored and supported by the Rhinebeck Rotary Club. The Rhinebeck Interact Club was chartered just 4 years ago with a handful of youth and has since grown exponentially.

Rhinebeck Interact Club again raising funds for the Nicaragua Project
On Monday, October 18, 2010 the Rhinebeck Rotary club provided each of the third grade students with their very own personal dictionary to keep forever at Rhinebeck's Chancellor Livingston Elementary School.
In mid-June between raindrops, the Rhinebeck Interact Club dedicated several hours to beautifying the gardens at the Astor Home for Children. As part of its mission to provide support to a number of local and international humanitarian efforts, Interact Club members hoped to make a valuable difference for the children who reside at Astor by enhancing the beauty of the grounds through planting, weeding and general landscaping.
On Monday, June 21st, Rhinebeck Rotarians will enthusiastically welcome a group of students for a special presentation on the very successful Nicaragua Project and Trip at its weekly meeting, to be held at the Beekman Arms at 12:15pm that day.

Rhinebeck Rotary, with assistance from Rebuilding Together of Dutchess County, has announced plans to make minor home repairs for the elderly who do not have the resources, or are physically incapable of providing safe conditions in their homes.
Chancellor Livingston Elementary was the sight for the Rhinebeck Rotary's 7th annual dictionary presentation to Rhinebeck's 3rd graders. Several local Rotarians were on hand to make the presentations to the students.
The Rhinebeck Rotary Club welcomed Dr. Diane Kantoros and Dr. Ali Hammoud to its weekly Monday luncheon meeting. The doctors are both founding members of the Rhinebeck Science Foundation; a not for profit foundation created to support the teachers of the Rhinebeck Central School District.
The Rhinebeck Rotary Club welcomed four campers from Camp Rising Sun at its weekly luncheon meeting, which was held at the Historic Beekman Arms on August 18, 2008.
