Timmins - The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine has generously donated $50,000 towards the "Give. for the Health of it!" Campaign. Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine are Woody Coulsen, President, Darren Taylor, Director of Service, and Marc Durocher Director of Public Relations. Accepting the donation on behalf of the Foundation are Dr. David Hook, Medical Director of the Department of Surgery, Joan Ludwig, Clinical Director, and Robert Perrault, Foundation Chairperson.

"I am very pleased to be here today to present this donation to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation," said Mr. Coulsen. "Forty-five thousand dollars will be invested towards the purchase of a portable ultrasound for the OR and the remaining $5,000 will be used towards a palliative room makeover. It's wonderful to be here today to present these funds, which will help so many patients."

Mr. Taylor stated that the Rotary Club raised the funds through various activities such as their 'Trip of the Month' event. "The residents of Timmins are extremely generous towards our fundraising activities. Without their help, we would not be able to donate money to various charities in Timmins. On behalf of the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine, I would like to thank all individuals and organizations who support our mission."

"The funds that we raise are thanks to the participation of the individuals in our community," said Mr. Durocher. "We host dinners and dances, and organize the Ribfest in order to raise funds for various charities in Timmins. Without the participation of our community, we would not be here today to present this donation."

"On behalf of the medical team at T&DH, I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine for their generous contribution," said Dr. Hook. "These funds will help our team provide top-notch quality care to the patients receiving surgical care at T&DH. Portable ultrasounds are now being used in ORs and clinics to aid in a number of procedures. One such application for ultrasound is in its role of locating major veins and helping to guide the insertion of catheters into those veins. The use of ultrasound for these purposes has been increasing at an exponential rate in modern medical practice and the patients at TDH will benefit from the availability of a portable ultrasound for use within the surgical program."

"T&DH will greatly benefit from the funds received today," said Mrs. Ludwig. "The Rotary Club has gone above-and-beyond to support T&DH throughout the years. Their contributions have made a positive impact on the lives of many patients who come to T&DH to receive medical care."

Mr. Perrault stated that the Rotary Club of Timmins has consistently supported the Foundation. "On behalf of the Foundation board of directors, I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine for their generous donation. We rely heavily on the service clubs in this region to reach our targets. It is with their help that we are able to provide T&DH with the necessary funds to purchase life-saving medical equipment."

The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation gratefully acknowledges the generosity of the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine. With the continued support of organizations within our district, the Timmins and District Hospital will be able to continue their tradition of offering top-quality health care services. Working together we will save lives.
