Middletown Thrall Library to Host Blood Drive
Community Blood Services of New York and New Jersey is holding a blood drive in their mobile van in front of Middletown Thrall Library, 11-19 Depot St., Middletown on Friday, October 8 from 2-6 PM. This is the first blood drive hosted by the Library and is being called "The Big Bleed for the Big Read: A Pint for Poe". This event is part of a series of programs and happenings in support of The Big Read.
The Big Read is a county wide initiative coordinated by the Orange Library Association (OLA). Beginning in late September, Orange County's 17 public libraries will celebrate the literary genius of Edgar Allan Poe. This effort is supported by a $17,050 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and matching funds from local organizations. The program provides citizens with the opportunity to read and discuss a single author within their communities, encouraging reading for pleasure and enlightenment. Many "spin-off" programs, including this blood drive, are also taking place during this time period.
Potential donors can schedule an appointment by contacting Barbara Chumard at (845) 341-5454 or emailing thrall16@warwick.net. Walk-ins are also welcome.
The need for blood is real and blood donations save lives. For each blood donor Community Blood Services will donate one children's book to the Library.
