Hot chili, beautiful weather, happy people and great music will team up on Sunday, September 18th 2011 at Camp Herrlich to make the Rotary Club of Carmel’s 3rd Annual Chili Cookoff a fantastic event. The day is scheduled to start off at 12pm with the music of the Acme Acoustic Band and the smell of chili. Chili Cookoff Web Site

Things will get heated as the competition doles out the chili. The professional contestants will be judged on taste, texture and appearance by professional BBQ and Chili Judge, Alan Schneider, a Mahopac Rotarian. Last year, things were very close, with the final scores within a half point of each other, the results came in and the winner was Lou’s Restaurant with a score of 49.5. Bucci Brother’s Deli, and Chef Theo of Camp Herrlich came in second and third, respectively. Compliments to the other professional contestants, George’s Place, Sentrista Grill, and Countryside Kitchen.

In the amateur division, the public will vote on their favorite chili. Last year, after counting all the votes, first place went to Lou Santangelo, then Gary representing the Brewster Rotary took second while John Bauer took third place. And although the other nine other contestants couldn’t take the heat, everyone’s chili was delicious!

In addition to hot chili, there will be music under the bandstand, hot dogs, sports in the camp’s fields, and displays set up by local merchants and groups, while the little ones can get their faces painted.
